What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Laboratory Technician - OLOL Children's Lab position at St Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital?
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine tests in various areas such as hematology, biochemistry, etc., using standard techniques and equipment. The Medical Laboratory Technician may make qualitative determination of sugar in urine, make blood cell counts, and prepare and mount specimens for microscopic examination.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate/Specialized Training
Skills and Training: Completion of an MLT training program
Licensure: Licensed in the state of Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician; temporary or letter of pending permit issued by LSBME
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs an acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on sample preparation and assay analysis in order to provide data on the cause, cure, and prevention of diseases, and toward improving health care service quality.
- Utilizes time efficiently in an effort to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of laboratory customers. Maintains an inventory of supplies in work areas as necessary to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid the duplication of energy and services whenever possible.
- Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to the working environment.
- Consistently exhibits a professional manner, appearance, and performance in the approach to job related duties in an effort to maintain high standards in the delivery of quality health care services. When in contact with patients of different age ranges (e.g., pediatric, adolescent, geriatric), performs all patient care duties in a manner that demonstrates a humanistic attitude for the physical and psychological needs relevant to the age of the patient served.
- Quality is paramount in all aspects of daily functions and work processes to include specimen preparation, assaying, and result reporting in compliance with established policies and procedures toward promoting high quality health care standards. Performs quality control, instrument maintenance and check procedures, and maintains accurate and complete records of daily activities.
- Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision making processes and in the performance of procedures.
- Assists in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
