Responsibilities
The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the OR and ancillary departments have correct, fully functional, sterile instrumentation in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Responsible for the oversight and organization of the employee base; serve as a resource for all Sterile Processing staff and customers. Assists the Director of Perioperative Services with staffing, budgeting, and human resource management. Must maintain equipment, computer programs, and other vital systems relevant to the department. Maintain appropriate levels of stock and supplies. Responsible for maintaining department standards according to AAMI, AORN, and other appropriate governing bodies. Implementing best practices and maintaining and promoting excellent collaborative interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships.
The Manager of Sterile Processing is also responsible for: operationalizing the day-to-day mission; basing all activities on a clear set of organizational values.
Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Qualifications
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Associate Degree
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
Specialized Knowledge:
Expert knowledge of Perioperative instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Expert knowledge of sterilization, asepsis, and infection control practices related to surgical procedures.
Knowledge of Joint Commission, AORN (Association of Perioperative Nurses), and AAMI (Association for Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) standards.
Knowledge of perioperative and materials management software programs.
Knowledge of budgeting concepts.
Kind and Length of Experience:
2 years surgical instrumentation and supply acquisition and processing experience including supervisory experience.
Experience with case cart system, sterile processing, and inventory management.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships.
