St. Francois County is seeking a full time IT Technician III.
NATURE OF WORK
The Technology Technician III works as the lead technician at the system level. This employee works directly with the Level I and II Technology Technician. This work includes repair and maintenance of all technology-related equipment as well as technical support for all technology-related systems. This employee is responsible for maintaining the operation and integrity of local area networks, file servers, and workstations. Technology Technician III supports the Director of Technology in the design, configuration, and installation of local area networks and file servers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with the technology director in the development and implementation of all technical aspects of the local technology plan.
- Assist the daily activities of the Levels I and II technical support staff.
- Mentoring Levels I and II technical support staff.
- Assist and/or perform the installation of hardware, software, and related peripherals.
- Perform the installation of local area networks, file servers, and other related peripherals under the supervision of the technology supervisor.
- Perform the maintenance of all local area networks by tracking significant problems, monitoring performance, and installing upgrades to hardware and software.
- Attend classes and seminars to enhance knowledge of equipment and operating.
- Assigns, monitors, and evaluates all repair and maintenance work done by the technical support staff to ensure reliability of performance.
- Assist with the installation of local area networks, file servers, and other related peripherals.
- Ensure the maintenance of all local area networks by tracking significant problems, monitoring performance, and installing upgrades to hardware and software.
- Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING
An associate degree in computer science or related field, two years’ experience in a network environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. This specification has been designated to represent the general nature and level of work found in positions in this class.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and tolls including computers, scanners, adding machines, computer software, computer hardware, sharing devices, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, technical manuals, newsletters, trade journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, training materials, system documentation, etc. using prescribed formats.
Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of computers and related technologies.
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components of local area networks.
- Strong knowledge of Networking (i.e., firewalls, switches, and servers).
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical support staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.
