Essential Job Functions

The Book Sale Technician is in charge of running all aspects of the Friends of the Library book sales . Under the direct supervision of the Director of Development, and with an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Book Sale Technician will :

Provide direct customer service to patrons at the Friends of the Library book sales. Receive and process customer payments.

Manage cash register operations, including balancing and reconciling.

Manage Friends of the Library (FOL) sales. Supervise day-of activity during FOL sale events as well as make decisions about merchandising, marketing and store layout.

Select, schedule, train, and oversee volunteers to withdraw library materials and stock shelves for the FOL and assist with FOL sales.

Make recommendations for changes in pricing.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Cash register experience.
• Minimum of two years library and / or retail experience
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Hours

• Required to work 20 hours per week. Supervisor arranges work schedule.
• Required to work during the regularly scheduled Friends of the Library Book Sales.

Wages

Starting / Hiring Range : $15.60 - $18.72, Hourly

Total Salary Range : $15.60 - $21.84, Hourly

Requirements

Spanish language skills preferred

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.

Public service orientation and commitment to excellent and genuine customer service.

Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations while upholding SJCPL’s ethical standards.

Practical experience and proficiency with computers, including the Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Windows, Mac OS, and communication technologies.

Stay current with new technologies.

Dependability, punctuality, trustworthiness, good attendance, and work habits.

Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and move library materials (20-25 lbs.) and to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to :

Work efficiently and prioritize important tasks. Make decisions and work independently and interdependently.

Accept and manage change. Maintain composure and overcome stress in any situation.

Design and oversee volunteer workflow necessary for withdrawal of materials and book sales. Identify efficiencies and suggest improvements in workflow.
