Role of the High School Math Teacher
Saint John’s High School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging high school math teacher. We
value diversity in backgrounds and in experiences and look for candidates who are knowledgeable in
their field, caring and compassionate, and ready to work with all of our students, teachers, and staff.
The ideal candidate is committed to guiding young men as they construct their understanding of
math in a student-centered classroom environment. This educator is a collaborator with an
appreciation for the teachable moment when moral and ethical questions arise in and out of the
classroom. Depending on the successful candidate’s other areas of expertise, teaching one or two
sections in another academic department may also be considered.
A person with consistently high standards, the candidate of choice seeks growth and learning every
day, both personally and professionally, and inspires others to do the same through optimism,
selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. With robust interpersonal skills, the selected candidate has a
real desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions and through additional
efforts, such as joining retreats, advising students, coaching teams, directing clubs, or supervising
activities. In addition to enthusiasm, integrity, and intellectual curiosity, we seek a teacher committed
to an inclusive school community.
The teacher will be responsible for the implementation of curricula, designing assessments that
measure student progress and achievement, using assessment data to inform instructional practices,
and participating in collaborative activities.
Minimum Qualifications
● An undergraduate degree in Math (a Master’s preferred).
● Rich knowledge of Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Geometry, and facility with a variety of
teaching tools.
● Fluency with mathematical thinking skills and current discipline-specific pedagogy.
● Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
● Robust interpersonal skills.
● Ability to articulate effectively the values and mission of Saint John’s High School and the
Xaverian Brothers.
● Commitment to Catholic education.
● Knowledge of contemporary educational issues, topics, and trends.
● Enthusiasm for working with High School students.
● Experience creating, supporting, and sustaining a culture of access and equity in Math
education.
● Dedication to partnering collaboratively with a team of talented faculty.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
● Skilled in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google
Calendar, etc.)
● Facility and high comfort level with educational technology tools; experience incorporating
educational technology into the classroom.
● A proven commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is required.
