Job Summary

The Marketing and Communications Specialist is an integral member of the Law School's Marketing and Communications team. The Specialist works with members of the Law School community including deans, faculty, students, and alumni to support their communication needs internally and externally; manages project intake and workflow; helps develop and distribute communications; curates content; and ensures that all communications created support the school's brand and its institutional marketing goals.


Essential Functions

  • Coordinate project intake, workflow, calendar, and outputs for the Marketing and Communications department.

  • Collaborate with constituents to create, deliver, edit, and optimize marketing materials.

  • Ensure that messages are supportive of and consistent with marketing strategies.

  • Prepare, deliver, formal, and edit marketing materials (both digital and physical}.

  • Work with constituents to identify and execute email campaigns and invitations.

  • Assist with social media and digital outreach.

  • Manage CRM database and facilitate both targeted and mass mailings (email and physical mail).

  • Coordinate event related marketing materials with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Serve as content project manager for the Law School's website and collaborate with department liaisons to ensure that website updates are completed within established timelines.

  • Review web content to identify storytelling opportunities to promote and engage prospective students, scholars, alumni, and other visitors.

  • Provide oversight and make recommendations for best practices for user experience, usability, SEO, accessibility, and digital analytics.

  • Keep up to date with content trends, consumer preferences, and advancements in technology

  • Assist with special projects as assigned and perform other related duties.


Competencies

  • Relationship management with strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent prioritization, time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong editing skills for publications.

  • Creative design sense and experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Hands-on experience with web content management tools.

  • Proficiency in MS Office.

  • Knowledge of and experience messaging through digital and social media.

  • Must be able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of e-mail and direct mail marketing a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills, including storytelling, voice, and tone.

  • Expertise with Google Analytics and the ability to review data and identify trends a plus.

  • Ability to learn quickly and be flexible when working in the digital space yet set priorities and exercise excellent judgment.

  • Adaptability and resourcefulness with existing technologies and enthusiasm for learning recent technologies.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position will be the supervisor of undergraduate student workers in the Marketing and Communications department.


Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment; this position is required to use standard office equipment.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

A full-time position with a flexible work from home opportunity after the three-month orientation period. Expected hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. -3:00 p.m. Some weekend and evening work.


Travel

Travel is primarily local.


Required Education and Experience

  • 3 - 5 years project management experience.

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary for this position is $62,600. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.


This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
