Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing various in office laboratory testing under the regulatory guidelines of CLIA or COLA certifications. Follows written guidelines for identifying patients and labeling specimens. Uses computer to efficiently organize specimen collection by priority. Successfully performs capillary and venipunctures, using sound judgment to make decisions about acceptability of sample type, volume and integrity. Responsible for reconciling and retrieving lab test results. Utilizes working knowledge of the complex instruments used in the clinical laboratory to perform the work required with speed and accuracy. Knowledgeable of laboratory test procedures with defined automated procedures, calculations and/or indicators which are age dependent. Testing procedures are performed on specimens for practice patients. Maintains cleanliness of laboratory, ensures equipment is properly maintained and orders supplies as needed. Ensures all in office testing is correctly billed within EMR. This position will also require communication with outside laboratories on behalf of patients and providers. Position requires individual to exhibit strong communication skills.

Core Job Functions
- In line with practice protocols, prior to collecting specimens, informs patients about procedure as well as related provider instructions and pre-procedure preparations.
- Per practice protocol, enters appropriate information regarding patient and specimens into EMR, using system efficiently, accurately, and effectively in the management of office based hematologic lab procedures and patients.
- Maintains the medical oncology office based lab equipment per procedures. Cleans per maintenance protocol, performs validity testing per protocol, and maintains supply inventory--notifying manager when supplies are low, equipment malfunctions, and related issues.
- Complies with office based regulatory guidelines and documents accordingly in order to maintain CLIA or other pertinent laboratory certifications and licensing.
