ED Tech - Full-time - Nights

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for the operations of the EKG functionThis includes performing EKGs, EKG charging through EMR , computer operations, cleaning EKG machine, and reporting malfunctioning equipment.
  • Provides supportive care to the Emergency Department patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or physicianMay perform approved procedures per policy.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a multidisciplinary team member; supports and assists team members in all activities.
  • Communicates in an effective and efficient manner with all documentation, and with all coworkers, patients, visitors and physicians.
  • Recognizes and reports appropriate data to the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists Registered Nurse and physicians with assessments, examinations and treatment.
  • Performs and assists with technical skills as defined in scope of practice.
  • Performs other duties as in-serviced, including crutch walking, dressing changes and assisting physician with splint or cast application.
  • Adheres to Hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines including limited access to the medication room for the purpose of restocking.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients servedAble to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
  • Assists patients from vehicle into wheelchair or onto gurney using correct body mechanics, as need dictates.
  • Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards.
  • Maintains patient comfort and privacy.
  • Reports patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care and observations to the RN.
  • Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures.
  • Assists with preparation of equipment for procedures.
  • Monitors and orders stock and restocks supplies (including patient food) as needed using handheld scanner or computerThis includes monthly monitoring and documentation for expired products.
  • Transports patients and supplies.
  • Participates in continuing education and departmental in-service meetings.
  • Maintains policies and procedures established by the department.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for ongoing education.
  • Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.

Required Knowledge, skills and abilities (not an inclusive list)
  • High School graduate or equivalent with one () year experience in acute Hospital setting or in ambulance; EMT certification preferred.
  • CNA certification in the state of North Carolina
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Medical terminology
  • NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) or equivalent
  • Perform EKGs correctly and post charges utilizing the medical record system (EMR).
  • Location, cleaning and replacing Code Carts.
  • Use of EMR to process orders for labs, x-rays etc.
  • Use of EMR to scan records into the chart
  • Use of OnBase Right Fax to print and copy to the EMR account
  • Use of EMR to route / fax patient information as appropriated
  • Use of EMR to order supplies utilizing both the scanner and computer
  • Use of different stretchers.
  • Cleaning and disposition of reusable instruments.
  • Cleaning of department including stretchers.
  • Transportation of patients.
  • Traction setup.
  • Assemble and use of Ambu Bag
  • Knowledge of and comfort with responsibilities during disasters.
  • Knowledge of and comfort with responsibilities during life safety codes.
  • Able to assess and recognize abnormal findings in emergency patients of all ages and report to physician and RN.
  • May be responsible for quick registration of ED patients.
