Position: Surgery Scheduler/ St. Luke's Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Location: Columbus, NC Date Posted: March 21, 2024
Essential Functions:
Schedules surgical procedures, MRI, CT scans for procedures and PPS appointments, rescheduling procedures as needed. Also makes post-op appointments at time of surgery schedule. Medical and Dental referrals as needed.
One-on-one time given with each surgical patient answering all questions the patient has regarding surgery. Giving any verbal or written information needed for pre- and post-op instructions.
Codes and assist in coding any written diagnosis for surgeries and diagnostic testing.
Schedules new, established and referral appointments by phone.
Enters surgical information into vendor websites for custom procedures.
Obtain pre-certification and benefits information then dispersing appropriately.
Keep surgical schedule current (white board, computers, chart file, etc.).
Monitor completion of required medical and dental clearances for surgical patients.
Prepare and sends thru the EMR system any and all necessary information such as Orders, History & Physicals, Consents, Medical and Dental clearance to the pre-op department for all upcoming surgeries.
Assist and collect any patient financial responsibility for upcoming surgeries. As well as payments, co-pays and outstanding balances when necessary.
Make correction and updates to patient demographic and insurance when needed.
Knowledgeable of contracted insurance plans and procedures.
Update surgical orders templates as needed.
Voicemails are checked on arrival in AM and at intervals throughout the day. Messages are handled appropriately.
Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education in order to maintain professional acumen.
Required Knowledge, skills and abilities:
High school graduate or equivalent.
A healthcare background is preferred. Excellent communication skills. Good organizational skills.
Must have the ability to handle difficult patients and situations in a professional manner.
Must be flexible in handling new and changing policies and procedures.
Must read, speak and write English well and have basic computer (keyboard) knowledge. Healthcare CPR is recommended.
If the employee is a CMA/RMA/CNA and desires to retain that certification, CPR is required. The CMA/RMA/CNA desiring to maintain certification must also be responsible to schedule a CMA/RMA/CNA workday at the hospital annually and complete the annual CMA/RMA/CNA competencies in order for a hospital employed manager to sign off on the state CMA/RMA/CNA recertification form.
Ability to use copier, fax computer keyboard and mouse, calculator, credit card machine, printer scanner and multi-line phone.
