  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Trauma Performance Improvement and Injury Prevention Nurse, under the direction of the Trauma Program Director and Manager, is accountable for the establishment and management of the trauma program performance improvement and community outreach injury prevention program.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: See Licensure/Certification/Registration requirement.
    • Experience: Three (3) years experience in the care of trauma patients: Emergency/Trauma Care or ICU Trauma Care. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in computer applications. Experience in educational staff development, public speaking or teaching.
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in Minnesota to practice as a Registered Nurse. BLS Certification with a designation of either BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Military Training Network. Completion of ACLS and TNCC within one (1) year of hire into this position.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course work.
    • Experience: Prior Level I or II Trauma Program involvement with Community Outreach, Injury Prevention and Performance Improvement.  Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement experience.
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: ENPC or PALS, ACLS, TNCC, CEN, TCRN, CFRN, CCRN.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of current nursing practice in Minnesota; some knowledge of critical care nursing; knowledge of the learning process, specifically adult education, some knowledge of teaching techniques (teaching experience preferred).  Knowledge of program planning, including needs assessment, content development and evaluation.  Knowledge of the healthcare industry in general, including the Emergency Medical System.  Ability to work independently and/or cooperatively to meet deadlines; extensive ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups within the hospital and community setting in a professional, courteous and tactful manner.  Ability to accurately communicate concepts and facts; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written communications.  Ability to develop educational and promotional materials for a variety of audiences; ability to maintain records and prepare reports as needed; ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently while under stress.  Ability to travel extensively throughout the region as needed.  Ability to exercise good professional judgment and accept personal responsibility.  Ability to manage time wisely and organize and set priorities.  Ability to positively represent the department, as well as St. Luke's.

    • WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
    • SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
