Overview

St. Luke’s Health Foundation is embarking on an organizational transformation as significant as the one that integrated an array of regional health centers and hospitals into one system nearly two decades ago. Dedicated to maintaining the individuality and community spirit that defines the character of Idahoans as well as the health care centers that serve them, St. Luke’s Health Foundation will unite, with this Vice President of Philanthropy, the fundraising programs throughout the St. Luke’s Health System.

Joining together will create opportunities for transformational giving that benefit the entire St. Luke’s Health System and enable donors to support large-scale visionary projects that improve health care throughout Idaho. With a united development organization, the Foundation will strengthen its operations and infrastructure to integrate best practices throughout each of its distinct communities. The VP of Philanthropy will work in collaboration with St. Luke’s leadership and board members throughout the system to create bold initiatives to motivate and inspire giving while also developing cultivation and stewardship strategies and opportunities that keep donors excited and engaged.

Position Summary

With direct accountability to the President and Chief Executive Officer and operational reporting relationship to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Vice President of Philanthropy is responsible for planning, implementation, creation, and evaluation of all aspects of St. Luke’s Health System’s philanthropic programs. The Vice President will lead the overall strategy of a comprehensive fundraising program in support of philanthropic initiatives, including the management and oversight of the existing community foundations and their respective executive director.

This Vice President of Philanthropy must be intrepid, have exceptional executive skills and lead with a collaborative style. The ideal candidate will be a coach, builder, creator, innovator, and accelerator. They will be able to hold onto a vision and have the roll-up-their-sleeves attitude to accomplish it.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivates long-term strategic relationships with individuals and institutional funders to secure philanthropic gifts that benefit St. Luke’s Health System.
  • Responsible for the administration of the developmental, promotional and stewardship needs of health system in partnership with the community.
  • Leads and supports the successful design and implementation of strategies to build donor pipelines including stewardship, public relations/communications, annual giving and corporate alliances.
  • Implements, grows, and manages all aspects of St. Luke’s Health Foundation Program. This includes identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and institutional prospects at local and national levels.
  • Assures development and maintenance of appropriate systems to fund development, including but not limited to donor management, research, gift processing and donor recognition.
  • Plans, coordinates, and assures implementation of strategies to generate and develop donor contributions to support the organization.
  • Evaluates and analyzes the effect of economic and market climate on the organization in regard to fund development. Implements short-and long-range plans and programs that support the organization’s mission, vision, core values and strategic goals.
  • Maintains accountability and compliance for donors and funding sources. Ensures design and maintenance of donor, volunteer/prospect records, gift management systems, and informational reports.
  • Develops measurable performance metrics, monitors results, and regularly briefs leadership on the effectiveness of the organization’s fund development strategies.
  • Displays leadership through departmental management and the development cohesive and collaborative relationships with others.
  • Responsible for full employment life cycle for staff to include hiring, termination, performance management, coaching, training, and mentoring to staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or six years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • 12 years of experience with a proven track record of fundraising experience gained in relevant positions of increasing responsibility and scope.
  • At least five years of direct people leadership with both direct and indirect reports.
