The position is to be backfilled with a full-time Medical Assistant. We are left with two MAs for an office with more than two providers/residents daily. Additional support is required to ensure no delays in patient care and an efficient workflow. Accurately obtains and records vital signs including height and weight. Performs hearing and vision screening. Assembles and maintains order of outpatient record in universal order per policy. Demonstrates ability to retrieve laboratory and radiology test results in the hospital computer system. Accurately records height and weight on growth charts. Calculates and records BMI. Files and pulls charts accurately. Demonstrates ability to navigate and utilize Electronic Medical Records System Completes patient scheduling completely and accurately. Assists with patient exams, procedures and collection of specimens as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of EPSDT and VFC policy and procedure. Completes EPSDT forms in an accurate and timely manner. Performs basic MA functions and assists clinician in the performance of those functions. Greets patients pleasantly and escorts to exam rooms, takes vital signs, weights and measurements. Ascertains patients’ chief complaint and history and describes in chart accurately and succinctly. Consults with physicians, clinical staff, and other staff members regarding patient and documents in patient charts. Provides communication between physician and patient and educates patients regarding any concerns. Telephones pharmacies to fill medications. Reviews patient medications/checks medication; educates patients regarding their medications. Schedules diagnostic testing. Instructs patients on test preps (EZ-Cat, x-prep, fleet enema). Telephones patients to review tests. Administers mini-neb treatments. Assists with EKG’s/PFT’s. Assists with minor office surgery (lesion removal, suturing) and suture removal. Instructs patient on wound care and redressing. Assists with pelvic and breast exams. Schedules appointments with other physicians. Performs phlebotomies and assists the medical technologists with the handling of laboratory specimens. Performs diagnostic testing to include urinalysis, stool hemocult, rapid strep processing, and simple spirometry. Performs control testing for all diagnostic equipment. Administers immunizations safely and accurately. Performs finger stick hemoglobin and lead testing. Answers telephone utilizing good customer service skills. Understands and interprets current immunization schedule. Uses equipment appropriately and safely. Maintains an awareness of unit budget. Develop, write and communicates office policies. Ensure regular, proactive communication among staff and clinical providers. Arranges meetings and scheduled appointments for the physicians. Maintains competence in Master Scheduling. Screens telephone calls and visitors and sorts incoming and interdepartmental mail. Distributes correspondence to the individuals designated in a timely manner and maintains files of correspondence and related materials. Coordinate with manager physician and employee work schedules, vacations, etc. Arrange and manager housekeeping, maintenance, repairs, etc. Manage and order inventory of supplies in coordination with physicians, nursing, and laboratory. Maintain tracking system for patients, referrals to Hospitals/ERs, diagnostic testing, etc. Under direction of practice supervisor, assist in keeping abreast of various regulatory requirements and ensure practice compliance for JCAHO, OSHA, HIPPA, DOH, etc. Monitors competency of the staff and provides training and timely feedback. Evaluates in conjunction with the Director, new staff, minimally after 1, 2, 3, and 6 months, then yearly. All other staff is reviewed on a yearly basis. Assist the physicians, nurses, etc. in dealing with patient concerns regarding medical care received. Oversees copying of patient records as requested, verifies appropriate patients’ records and that results are reviewed by a physician. Oversees that the lab, radiology and other reports are attached to appropriate patients’ records and that the results are reviewed by a physician. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
