The Controller of St. Mary Development Corporation and Subsidiaries (SMDC) reports to the Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Controller is responsible for assisting the CFO in controlling, safeguarding, reporting, analysis and planning regarding all financial resources for SMDC. The Controller will also supervise staff accountants and manage the finance department.

Essential Job Function / Responsibilities:

· Monthly Closings – Prepare monthly financial reports for SMDC and all related entities in a clear, concise, and timely manner, including completion of month end reconciliations. This includes developing a monthly reporting package to send to all senior management that properly and accurately explains the current and YTD financial position of all entities, along with explanation of any variances.

· Annual Budgets – Assist with preparation of the annual budget for SMDC and related entities in conjunction with corporate objectives which include defensible assumptions and a sound course of action.

· Annual Audits – Preparation of year-end audit work papers and working with the independent public accounting firm and governmental agencies as required.

· Cash Flow Analysis – Managing the cash position for SMDC and all related entities.

· Day to day accounting functions – Manage Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Bank Reconciliations, Fixed Assets and the General Ledger to maintain accuracy of our financial operations.

· Development Activities – Proactively process construction draws, NW LOC draws, and equity draws related to development activities. All Cost Certifications and 8609s are filed timely. Financials for active developments are to be tracked separately from SMDC general ledger activities.

· Reports to Government Agencies and Outside Investors – Prepare accurate and timely tax and non-tax reports to government agencies and outside investors. Must be available and knowledgeable to answer any requests or questions that arise regarding SMDC and all related entities.

· Financial Operations and Procedures – Developing, maintaining, monitoring, and documenting effective internal controls and financial accounting. Making needed updates as necessary and facilitating change within the accounting organization.

· Supervision of Accounting Staff – Manage and supervise the accounting staff in conjunction with the CFO’s requirements. Establish and maintain a workplace that encourages initiative, collegial decision-making, change and positive morale. Manage staff development and training.

· Communication – Proactively communicate all transactional details to property management accounting teams for related party entities to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.

· Assist CFO with any Special Projects

Education & Skills:

· Strong organization, communication and presentation skills

· 6 years supervisory experience

· Accounting Degree (CPA designation strongly preferred)

· Familiar with Microsoft based accounting software (prefer Great Plains)

· Past involvement in IT upgrades such as online banking, software implementation and improving existing systems.
