Status: Full-Time (40 hours), Salary-Exempt

Characteristics of Position:
The Assistant Director of the Weekday Ministry oversees the Preschool and Afterschool Programs and staff, while assisting the Weekday Director in upholding the mission and high standards of the
Weekday Ministry here at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. The Assistant Director assumes all Director responsibilities in the absence of the Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the operations of the Weekday Ministry Preschool and Afterschool

Programs.

  • Conduct monthly preschool staff meetings.
  • Conduct Afterschool staff meetings.
  • Interview and hire Preschool and Afterschool staff.
  • Schedule Preschool and Afterschool staff maintaining a DHS staff-to-child ratio.
  • Arrange for substitute teachers for Preschool and Afterschool.
  • Evaluate Preschool staff members on an annual basis.
  • Work with the Administrative Assistant to make sure that Preschool and Afterschool staff are getting in their training hours.
  • Supervise teachers to ensure that they are following lesson plans.
  • Plan and work with Preschool and Afterschool teachers regarding school-wide activities.
  • Conduct tours and provide interested families with information about our ministry.
  • Works with the Administrative Assistant to oversee the Waiting List.
  • Be available to parents and staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of DHS guidelines and policies.
  • Develop a driving schedule to bring kids from school to church.
  • Work with the Director to ensure that we operate within the parameters of the operational budget.
  • Work with the Director, Financial Administrator, and Weekday Board to prepare the annual budget.
  • Assist teachers with managing behavior problems.
  • Observe/monitor classrooms regularly.
  • Assist in checking payroll and ensuring there isn’t overtime.
  • Assist in filing current and accurate Preschool employee and child records.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all licensing regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining the selection and distribution of supplies for the Preschool and

Afterschool programs.

  • Take proper disciplinary actions required for staff not following policies and procedures.
  • Attend Weekday Ministry Board meetings.
  • Keep the Director informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of childcare experience required.

License/Certification: CPR certification required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, stoop, kneel and lift up to

30 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $35,000.00 per year

  • Childcare: 5 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (Required)

Ability to Relocate:

  • Madison, MS 39110: Relocate before starting work (Required)
