JOB SUMMARY: The Trauma Program Injury Prevention Specialist / Registrar is responsible for the injury prevention component and registrar components of the trauma program. Trauma Program Injury Prevention Specialist / Registrar assumes responsibility for data abstraction from patient charts, data input into the hospital trauma registry that is reported to the State of Montana Trauma Systems, data collection and tracking for internal hospital trauma data logs, generating statistics/reports within the department and as requested by other various departments and outside entities as needed for ongoing performance evaluation and improvement. Trauma Program Injury Prevention Specialist / Registrar performs data checks for validity/reliability and submits data quarterly and on an annual basis to the State of Montana Trauma Systems. Person fulfilling this position is expected to attend monthly trauma committee meetings.
The Trauma Program Injury Prevention Specialist / Registrar is also responsible for the overall planning, development, and oversight of the injury prevention activities developed within the Trauma Program for St. Peters Health, with direct input by the Trauma Coordinator. Injury prevention activities are developed to target trauma related hospital and/or community needs which may be driven by the trauma registry statistics. The Trauma Program Injury Prevention Specialist / Registrar works collaboratively with the Trauma Program Coordinator for all injury prevention activity implementation and will use relevant data abstraction from the registry for identification of education and prevention needs. This person will also be responsible for collaboration with other hospital staff and relevant external agencies. This individual will serve as a resource to nursing staff, pre-hospital personnel, and other outside personnel related to trauma care and injury prevention education. It is the responsibility of the Trauma Program Injury Prevention Specialist / Registrar to conduct community education programs for diverse populations as well as coordinate responses to request for injury prevention information. Job duties may include development of brochures, audiovisual aids, and presentation handouts to correlate with injury prevention activities. The Trauma Program Injury Prevention Specialist / Registrar is responsible for accurate documentation and record keeping of all injury prevention activities.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years experience in healthcare. Computer experience (spreadsheet, database, word processing and basic graphic design) strongly preferred. Meditech experience preferred. Knowledge of medical science, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology/disease processes, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging, and medical procedures/processes. Skills to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously and practice independent judgment to prioritize work with deadlines. Experience in developing, overseeing, and evaluating the effectiveness of an implemented program as well as developing/delivering presentations to adults and children preferred.
EDUCATION: Associates or Bachelors degree preferred. Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: RN required. Willing to complete ICD 10 coding training.
