JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): This position supports the mission of St. Peters Health through the provision of exceptional and compassionate nutritional health care by planning and delivering nutritional care to patients according to the physicians diagnosis and performing as a key member of the multidisciplinary team. This position delivers an individualized lifestyle medicine physician directed plan, inclusive of medical visits, medication management, dietician support, and a Lifestyle Medicine group education program featuring evidence based exercise, nutrition, stress and healthy mindset group learning to change unhealthy behavior and promote/inspire healthy life choices and sustainable behavior change. This position will function as a subject matter expert for the Lifestyle Medicine program nutrition content, seeing patients in both 1:1 and group settings. This position will also serve as the operational support and business development for the New Lifestyle Medicine/Medical Weight Management Program at St Peters Health. This position acts as a professional speaker to the community, nursing staff and outpatients on subjects of nutrition and wellness. This position ensures that the experience provided at all levels exceeds the expectations of patients, clients, customers, physicians, care coordinators and team members. This position ensures experience and care is provided in a financially responsible manner.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- 1:1 RD nutrition assessments/screenings based on health metrics and existing habits, behaviors and/or past health history.
- Work independently and with other healthcare professionals to create individualized nutrition care plans and advise on Lifestyle Medicine principal integration into patient lifestyle.
- Educate patients and families on their specific dietary needs.
- Track patient progress
- Connect patient with other needed health services.
- Participate in new program development workflows, scheduling, and documentation etc. for billable visits.
- Collaborate with the Lifestyle Medicine physicians and interdisciplinary care team and continually update patients individual treatment plan as needed.
- Maintain current and complete documentation in the electronic medical record system.
- Acquire recipe ingredients (grocery shopping) in accordance with Lifestyle Medicine/SPH established parameters, nutrition guidelines, local health department regulations while maintaining a clean, sanitized cooking area.
Group Learning
- Coordinate and present group learning nutrition workshops, food as medicine/cooking presentations and Lifestyle Medicine nutrition workshops based on Provider defined educational curriculum. In person or virtual.
- Present Nutrition education and cooking demo workshops as needed and serve as subject matter expert on culinary techniques for preparing Lifestyle Medicine recipes with ease, efficiency and affordability.
Program Development
- Participate in community outreach/marketing of Lifestyle Medicine program and on demand public speaking/media interviews.
- Collaborate with MDs on the introduction of evidence based retail product offerings such as meal replacement options, dietary supplements and others. TBD upon on future site location.
- Serve as active program ambassador for organizational outreach, community engagement, business development and other patient engagement activities
- The incumbent will be in tune with market opportunities and actively participate in the Lifestyle Medicine program development to ensure the program remains optimal in patient care and experience, and differentiated as best in class.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Thorough knowledge of therapeutic and nutritional values of foods and meals, therapeutic dietary functions, teaching pediatrics to adults with varying learning abilities to effect needed dietary modifications. This knowledge is usually gained with at least 2 years of clinical nutrition experience. Previous work experience with patients suffering from chronic disease preferred. Extensive and complete knowledge of lifestyle medicine nutrition and culinary educational content; up to date knowledge of current nutrition trends and fads, food products and food safety/precautions required.
EDUCATION: Must have a bachelors degree in dietetics or related field from an accredited school and be registry eligible. Masters preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current and valid drivers license required. Valid and current Basic Life Support certification is required. Must be a Registered Dietitian and licensed as a Nutritionist in Montana and maintain credentials throughout employment in this role The CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) certification is preferred.
Aptitudes: Analytical skills to interpret physician orders, assess patient condition, plan a suitable diet and evaluate patient response. Communication skills to present to a large group as well as counsel a single patient or patients family. Flexible to meet the patient care demands when they arise. Ability to work independently required.
