What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse position at St. Stephen's Episcopal School?
St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a day and boarding school of 690 students (grades 6-12), is seeking a Registered Nurse for a full-time position working nights and weekends starting immediately. The Health Center remains staffed 24/7, extending beyond the typical school day and providing more comprehensive care to our boarding population.
Primary duties include:
- Provide direct care, both chronic and acute, to a diverse student population; may be required to work as the only Registered Nurse for specific shifts.
- Educate students on illness prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, and management of disease processes.
- Dispense routine and PRN medications as ordered.
- Maintain immunization records and assess individual compliance, as determined by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Review all required student health documentations.
- Communicate frequently with parents/guardians regarding their children’s health needs.
- Collaborate with our school physician to provide primary care to boarding students grades 8-12.
- Provide screenings (and maintain certification as a vision and hearing screener for the state of Texas).
- Coordinate boarding students’ physical and mental health needs, including consultations in the community.
- Attend school overnight trips as assigned.
- Must maintain: BLS (professional level) certification.
Qualified candidates will have:
- A current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas;
- A shared interest in preventative healthcare and education;
- An interest in adolescent health and has knowledge or experience in adolescent primary care;
- Experience working with families;
- Experience in school nursing, pediatrics, or urgent/emergency care preferred;
- A minimum of two years of work as a Registered Nurse required;
