Position Summary/Objective
The Kitchen Porter promotes a culture of safety, hospitality, service, honor, and respect among our homeless guests, our staff, and volunteers, for the purpose of furthering the vision and mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Kitchen Porter will be responsible for cleaning SVdP kitchen areas and supporting our cooking staff. This position will include washing dishes, keeping floors clean, sanitizing food preparation surfaces, and occasionally helping with food prep work. This is a part time role.
Essential functions
• Keep all kitchen work surfaces (counters, sinks, stoves, walls) clean and sanitized
• Sweep and mop floors
• Be ready to clean up spills to avoid hindering operations
• Arrange equipment and ingredient deliveries
• Keep the food and supply storage areas organized
• Take out the trash
• Help with food prep when needed
• Serve guests at shelters when needed
Required education and experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs for short distances
• Serve Safe certification preferred
• Demonstrated successful experience working with diverse populations
• Previous food service experience preferred, willing to train
• Hospitality and service to St. Vincent guests, while we are serving meals
