Core Technician

Staff On Site currently seeking a Core Seasonal Technician for a seed company in Janesville, WI.

Position Purpose: This position is focused on the day to day operations involved with running a corn seed research site. The applicant will need to work both independently and lead a crew in a multiple different task, both in a warehouse and field setting. High attention to detail, dependability and excellent work ethic are all required. Applicants will also need to be able to pick up new tasks quickly as work duties will change several times throughout the year.

Starting Wage: $17.00/hour probationary rate, with two first year increases based on performance. Yearly raises based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assistance with spring plantings

o Counting and preparation/layout of planting seed

o Planting of seed for research plots

· Data collection

o Stand counts and plot thinning

o Assist with opportunistic and other requested notes

· Assist with summer corn nursery when available

o Assist with and lead a crew of pollinators in both selfing and crossing nurseries

· Assist with Machine Harvest and Hand Harvest

o Operate Combine in conjunction with collecting harvest data

o Assist a crew of workers to collect corn seed by hand for future planting

· Learn and follow Syngenta safety and stewardship protocols

o Complete training and identify concerns

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

· Critical experience

o Agronomy training preferred

o Forklift and agriculture equipment experience preferred

· Critical Technical, Professional and Personal Capabilities

o Ability to use MS Office software

o Ability to learn and use proprietary software

o Ability to work in a team and to communicate with others

o Ability and motivation to learn new technologies

o Ability to exercise judgement within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

· Additional Information

o Applicant must hold a valid US driver’s license

· Physical Demands of the Essential Functions

o Capable of working in high or low temperatures in the field

o Capable of lifting 50 pounds

o Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the growing season

· Working Conditions while Performing Essential Functions

o Mostly field setting and warehouse setting with some office work

o Potential allergens –pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides

Some travel may be necessary.
