Title: Engineering Technician Level 4

Type of Hire: Contract 13 month contract

Must Haves: used oscilloscopes and DMM's in a lab setting, soldering, being on your feet for 8 hrs. Lift up to 35lbs max.

Job Description:

Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment. Applications include analog, digital and power electronic systems.

Independently works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, and defined plans to perform modifications, testing, checkout, and trouble-shooting functions.

Performs test set-up, qualification and agency certification testing, and data capture for test reports with minimal supervision and guidance.

Uses test, development, and diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, current and voltage probes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and specialized test apparatus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solder experience down to 0402/0201 components
  • Experience using DMMs
  • Experience using oscilloscopes
  • Experience working with high voltage (over 50V) OR
  • Good organizational skills demonstrated through organizing or managing a lab or materials for a project
  • Meet RA physical job requirements for laboratory work and equipment handling

o 8 hours on feet and moving around workcells, repeatedly lift 35 pounds, bend and form heavy MCM wire

JOB DUTIES

  • Works independently on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions
  • Perform component, subsystem, and product testing, evaluating performance per specification
  • Maintain and learn new technological skills so that they may be appropriately applied in product test or to development processes
  • Utilize and interpret the following test and development instrumentation: Digital oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, tachometers, power supplies, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, EMC analyzers, surge generators, and partial discharge testers
  • Shall understand and practice laboratory procedures for the safe and efficient use of electronic instrumentation, electrical power, rotating electrical machinery, and general laboratory cleanliness
  • Writes reports, test plans and other related or supporting levels of documentation
  • Assist others in the accomplishment of development programs, from evaluating design concepts through experimentation and prototype development including engineering documentation
  • Use ordinary hand and power tools to construct and fabricate prototype circuits, sub-systems and systems commonly found in a power electronics industry
  • Learn and use SW tools to interface to and control the operation of a variable frequency drive (VFD)
  • Troubleshoot, solder components and repair printed circuit boards
  • Compose well written, legible, and accurate notes of experiments, including a summary on interpreting test results and recommendations
  • Learn and use software tools such as SAP and Windchill
  • Travel to off-site facilities in greater Milwaukee area for EMC, shock and vibration testing for product qualification and certification

Voltage experience over 50 volts. A project of theirs recently became fast tracked so they have a need of someone to quickly come on board. Project plan is for 13 months. Set in FG as 1 year but it will be 13. There is the chance of a Full Time person converting. Good organizational skills organizing lab or materials for projects. Working on a higher horsepower drive product. It's about the size of a refrigerator. The level of current to power this large bus bar drive are unusual. 100-1000 amps for current. OT is available if they want it 8-10 hours a week. If they don't have high voltage exp- they'd need to somehow need to be shown. The experience doesn't need to be in an industrial setting. Looking for raw troubleshooting potential more than soldering and such but really would like both skills.
Soldering on PCB's and wiring. Harnesses and bus bars in the drive they will work on. Torque tools and other assembly will be required for the job.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Salary: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
