Job Description:
NGS Laboratory Medical Assistant primary purpose will be to act as the assistant in requesting patients' tissue biopsy from outside pathology laboratories.
Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
Facilitates the tissue fax requests to external pathology laboratory requesting FFPE slides for NGS testing.
Ensures that the required paperwork is requested along with the tissue Slides and/or FFPE blocks.
Calls and follows up on tissue requests.
Identifies patients’ information with 2 identifiers such as full name, DOB, or Medical Record Number.
Demonstrate knowledge and maintain close working relationships with all departments within the Medical Center to provide the best possible service to our patients.
Utilizes positive problem-solving approaches to resolve problems and maintain departmental morale.
Assist in answering phones in a friendly and professional manner.
Assist in delivering patients ‘samples to the NGS lab.
Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with Medical Center policies and procedures.
Responds to all emergency situations in accordance with proper policies and procedures.
Maintains a clean and organized working area.
Maintains a good working relationship with coworkers and other medical personnel.
Maintains a personal appearance that conveys confidence and professionalism while adhering to the department attire standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager.
