Team/Department Description:

The Auctane DevOps team is responsible for finding the right tools and processes required to build an efficient and effective automated environment for the engineering team. In addition, a heavy emphasis is placed on automating infrastructure, CI/CD, and various other processes. The team is constantly looking at new technologies that will help us with faster delivery of features, enhance observability and improve the quality of life in the engineering organization.

Strategic Imperative:

The Senior DevOps Engineer operates within the DevOps team. This role is responsible for ensuring that our company's development and operational efficiencies are constantly improving. The role will help optimize and harden systems and applications, protect network boundaries, respond to incidents, and ensure sensitive data is properly protected within our cloud infrastructure. The Senior DevOps Engineer will also work closely with IT, Security and Engineering teams. to ensure best practices & compliance initiatives are being implemented and adhered to.

Essential Position Duties :

  • Contributing to the design, build and operational management of a highly scalable, secure and available infrastructure operating 24x7
  • Ensuring that Auctane infrastructure platforms are secure and can scale to support rapid growth in transaction volumes during periods of peak business. Limit or eliminate exposure to single points of failure
  • Designing and building infrastructure platforms with the highest levels of security. Respond swiftly to new and emerging security threats and vulnerabilities
  • Creating tools and automated workflow capabilities to enable our software engineers to test and promote code across the different environments with maximum velocity
  • Collaborating with software engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle and promoting an operational mindset, to ensure the ongoing success
  • Constantly improving the platform by introducing new technologies where appropriate, driving efficiency and reducing technical debt
  • Work with engineering teams on solution design, capacity planning and performance
  • Promote and implement systems infrastructure and operational best practices
  • Championing cloud native design and ensuring our cloud environment is highly available, resilient and cost efficient.
  • Provide out of hours support either as part of scheduled rota or critical project delivery
  • Ensure data stores are handing data according to our policies.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, Information Security/Assurance, Internal Audit, or equivalent years' experience.
  • Minimum of 5 plus (5 ) years of professional experience in a DevOps environment
  • Hands on experience with AWS in a production environment
  • Demonstrated experience and thorough understanding of the pillars of Cloud engineering (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost optimization, Observability) and a willingness to apply, discuss, and improve understanding and context of those ideas

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience with a wide variety of services in AWS in production. Experience working across multiple AWS regions and accounts is a plus.
  • Experience creating/managing infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform or Cloudformation -- A passion for immutable infrastructure as code
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration, preferably with Kubernetes
  • Experience with Kubernetes applications and concepts, such as cluster autoscaling, external DNS, Ingress (NGINX or ALB), and Helm as a means of deploying applications.
  • Able to automate processes by authoring and executing scripts in Python, BASH, Powershell, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as NewRelic, Datadog, Sumologic, Elasticsearch, etc.
  • Experience with managing source code repositories, including branching and merging of code.
  • Experience with build and deployment tools such as TeamCity, Octopus, Buildkite, Jenkins, Github Actions or similar.
  • Excellent hands on Linux and Windows skills; coupled with a great understanding of DevOps principles
  • Experience creating high available systems and scalable architectures
  • Constantly striving for automation and efficiency
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience with serverless technologies
  • Evidence of creating and improving platforms to facilitate continuous delivery
  • Focused operational mindset and passion for observability
  • Comfortable working with multiple teams and balancing their needs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical by nature and enjoys troubleshooting and solving complex System Engineering problems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willing to attend conferences, webinars and meet-ups and share the learning
