The Accountant is a full-time employee who plays a pivotal role in our finance team, contributing to the management of financial transactions, preparing comprehensive reports that provide a clear picture of the organization’s financial health, and ensuring strict adherence to accounting principles and company policies. Routine responsibilities include account reconciliations, month-end and year-end closes, financial variance research and analysis, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations (cash, prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, intercompany, temporarily restricted, inventory, sales tax, etc.), assistance with cash flow projections, bi-weekly payroll processing, assistance with annual audit and keeping a mindful eye on internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP.
Qualified candidates should possess a degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. A CPA license is preferred. Superior computer skills and Sage or similar accounting software experience required. Experience using Paychex payroll processing is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create monthly standard and non-standard journal entries, record sales orders, and issue client invoices.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
- Manage the activity of the project accounts, providing financial statements as needed.
- Must be dedicated to meeting the month-end closing deadlines and assist in preparing a variety of financial schedules and reconciliations.
- Provide assistance to the chairperson of the public programs and special events including treasury functions.
- Reconcile banking statements routinely or as needed.
- Assist in maintaining timely and accurate retail purchase order and receipt processing, retail reporting, and analysis of retail inventory.
- Maintain accounting records to properly reflect assets, liabilities, and net assets of all companies including Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens Inc., Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens Foundation, and Architectural Restoration Renovation Consultants, Inc.
- Process and prepare the bi-weekly payroll routinely or as needed.
- Will be cross-trained for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to provide support.
- Prepare special studies and analyses as required.
- Provide relief for the Controller and accounting staff members as needed.
- Attend and participate in entity meetings and events.

- Should possess computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and accounting software.
- Should have the ability to work effectively with staff and volunteers during events and daily operations. Assist others with understanding the financial responsibilities and reporting of their departments, groups, committees, and organizations.
- Ability to set goals, meet deadlines, handle multiple projects or tasks and be detail oriented.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business, and/or Finance required.
- Minimum of 5years or the equivalent of accounting experience required.
- Not for profit accounting experience preferred.
- CPA, or tracking towards certification, preferred.
