Position Summary
The Plant Manager is a hands-on leadership position that supports, coaches, directs, and oversees all daily operations of the Saginaw plant. The person in this role develops processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality, customer service, productivity, and continuous improvement goals. Additionally, the Plant Manager reviews expense budgets for each department, participates in fiscal responsibility, and is accountable for the plant P&L. This position will have full ownership of the Saginaw plant operations and reports directly to the COO. We are looking for a true leader who will elevate operations across the plant, be accountable for running best-in-class operations, and inspire our team to do their best work every day.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, management, and supervision of all areas of the Saginaw plant, including manufacturing, production, maintenance, housekeeping, and shipping and receiving, ensuring OSHA compliance in all areas.
- Drive world-class operating and materials management practices and create a practical mindset of “Lean” and continuous improvement across the organization to improve operational capability, better serve customers and optimize cost structure.
- Work cross-functionally with finance, sales, customer service, safety, human resources and operations teams to develop and implement processes and procedures to reduce cost, improve quality, improve safety and increase production.
- Drive cultural change, from a “that’s the way we’ve always done it” mindset to a true adoption of operational excellence.
- Develop and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Inspire and develop the team, ensure effective training and coaching is available for team members at all levels, and recruit, manage, and develop plant staff.
- Conduct daily operations meetings and weekly departmental meetings to communicate goals, changes, and overall performance towards continuous improvement.
- Perform period end review of departmental budgets and be accountable for plant P&L; communicate financial performance to key personnel on a period close basis
- Lead by example and be a brand ambassador of Standard Meat and champion of our values in all interactions with team members and external stakeholders.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Engineering degree is a plus
- 7 years of experience in plant management for a multi-faceted manufacturing business with multiple sites and multiple product/service categories
- Experience in the food industry; experience with meat is a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Character Traits
- Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
- Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, procedures, and specifications
- Knowledge of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory, and stewardship processes
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants
- Strong technical skills with industry standard equipment
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office and able to learn and adapt to other software programs, such as ERP, WMS, etc; ability to manage and analyze large data sets and build models in Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Strong leadership skills including leading by example, team building, decision-making and people management skills
- Able to lead root cause analysis investigations
- Able to develop methods to adapt training materials to our multilingual operating staff
- Knowledge of process improvement principles such as Lean Six Sigma
- Bilingual is a plus
