As the Director of Engineering, you will direct and coordinate all engineering related activities by performing the duties below either individually or by working through team members or supervisors. The Director of Engineering will provide leadership in the design and sustaining environment by developing and implementing short range plans and identifying goals and objectives to meet the company's vision, mission and long range strategic plans. Commercial responsibilities will include working with the Director of Sales and Marketing and other senior leadership in order to understand and properly address customer requirements. This position is also responsible for driving quality improvements in order to reduce warranty costs.
What You'll Do
Serve as key member of the management team that sets the company's strategic direction.
Develop strategic planning for the direction and control of product development activities
Formulate long term objectives and standards of performance for the department and assure that the department achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame.
Stay on top of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its design and technology leadership position.
Hire and direct staff to acquire necessary resources to meet commitments.
Motivate, coach and guide engineering staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands on project management, recognizing the role as that of both manager and support resource / mentor.
Manage engineering employees and engineering resources to ensure that products are designed efficiently, cost effectively, on time, and at optimum quality levels in a safe work environment.
Promote, identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement through constant assessment of employee and process effectiveness.
Assists in improving manufacturing processes and methods for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Cash
Comply with, understand, and enforce all company policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and mandates.
Manage projects with listing agencies; UL, NSF, UL CTDP, DOE, EPA, and other governing agencies that may be applicable.
Provide estimates on product manufacturing costs as requested.
Provide engineering input for new product development decision making process and product customization decision making process and ensure designs meet customer expectations.
Provide input for quarterly business updates and for quarterly balanced performance plan reviews.
Assists in the annual budget planning process by providing inputs on cost associated with product development and expected future capital and expense needs.
Lead cross functional teams as subject matter expert in particular area of engineering expertise.
What You'll Bring
Master's degree in Engineering preferred.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in a manufacturing product development environment.
