Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Audit Exceptions Analyst in the Office of the University Registrar, a unit within Student and Academic Services (SAS). SAS is an energetic organization that supports the policies, practices, and systems used by and to support Stanford students, faculty, and staff and is an office within the division of Student Affairs. This is a 6 month fixed-term position.


We seek candidates who can support the vision and work of the Degree Audit team, and support Our Most Important Work.


In this role, you will:

Lead and manage the degree audit exception process under minimal supervision; develop and design the exceptions process and procedures to be incorporated into the new degree audit system, My Academic Path, which will be utilized by departments and central offices campus-wide.

  • Administer degree audit exceptions and training in student services, evaluate and recommend decisions on system functionality. Review decisions recommended by other staff.
  • Develop a process for departments to enter academic exceptions.
  • Collaborate with others to help resolve degree audit and degree progress issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues. May be tasked with evaluating and recommending program improvements. Analyze, enter, and validate exception data for all general education requirements.
  • Provide guidance and counsel, oversee and develop a wide range of programs and services, analyze effectiveness, and make recommendations for future programs. Facilitate department academic exception entry.
  • Reconcile complex issues; analyze diverse transactions from multiple sources.
  • Summarize data from multiple student data sources, prepare, manage, and create reports and presentations relating to academic exceptions.
  • Identify and evaluate student data needs; manage the implementation and development of technology.
  • Develop and implement plans for outreach efforts on student exceptions.
  • Serve as a degree audit subject matter expert to students and other departments; represent units/departments.
  • Lead, create and contribute to development of business practices and organizational change to improve processes and workflow.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
  • Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
  • Understanding of financial transactions.
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Experience with PeopleSoft student information system (Campus Solutions).
  • Experience analyzing and developing various reports for internal and departmental use.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets
  • Ability to identify and select usable data from extremely subtle and complex data patterns, applying practical understanding.
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience in using a degree audit system
  • Experience with Registrar’s Office and Academic department business practices
  • Ability to translate business processes into system requirements and/or develop systems solutions.

Working Conditions:

  • May work extended or non-standard hours based on project or business needs.

  • This will be a hybrid position with 1-2 days required on-site, with the possibility of being 100% remote based on the manager’s discretion.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has Five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.


The expected pay range for this position is $55,000 to $96,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
