Stanford University has an immediate opening for Director of the Confidential Support Team, an office of mental health professionals that provides trauma-informed support for students impacted by sexual and relationship violence. This position is integral to creating a healing space for the students we serve and helping them to navigate complex systems on and off campus.
CST is a unit of Vaden Health Services within the division of Student Affairs. CST supports connection, healing, and thriving among Stanford students impacted by sexual, relationship, and gender-based violence through confidential, trauma-informed consultation, counseling, and outreach. JOB PURPOSE:
- Serve as the director of the Confidential Support Team (CST), providing leadership in program development and strategic vision for CST clinical and outreach missions and goals.
In this role, you will:
- Set and assure professional standards for clinical, outreach, and administrative work at CST.
- Lead and manage CST staff, including recruitment, hiring, supervision and professional development of team comprised of an administrative associate and clinical team.
- Provide direct clinical care for students, supervision of trainees, and consultation/support for professional staff.
- Specifically provide a wide range of trauma-informed direct clinical services in response to experiences of sexual assault or relationship violence within a diverse student population (e.g., consultation, crisis support, brief emotional support, individual and group therapy, on and off campus treatment planning, and on-call services).
- Provide and oversee urgent and on-call services, including crisis support.
- Collaborate with CST Outreach Manager on CST outreach strategy and goals.
- Collaborate with the CST Clinical Care Manager in managing clinical flow to ensure accessibility and quality of care.
- Participate in outreach activities including presentations, trainings, support for student organizations in developing healing and awareness raising events and developing and maintaining relationships with various campus community centers and organizations.
- Champion activities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion within and outside the unit.
- As a unit head of Vaden Health Services, participate actively in Vaden Leadership Team and Quality Council meetings, activities, and initiatives.
- CST Director reports to Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Executive Director of Vaden Health Center.
- CST Director acts in consultation and collaboration with the Vaden Leadership team, as well as other campus partners (e.g., Vaden Medical Services, CAPS, SHARE Response and Education Teams, YWCA, Residential Education, Graduate Life Office) and advisory groups comprised of students and/or staff.
- Maintain a consultative and productive relationship with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
- Manage CST budget and approve expenses.
- Institute and supervise training, research, program evaluation, and other initiatives, as appropriate.
- Serve as spokesperson for the unit, on and off campus, with students, staff, faculty, and others. This could include participating on committees or providing consultation related to organizational policies and practices (e.g., processes for supporting students who are assaulted while traveling internationally, Title IX advisory board, and others).
Job Requires:
- PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-approved training program
- Completion of an APA-approved internship
- Minimum of one year of postdoctoral training
- Licensure in California
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Five-years post degree experience and one year of managerial supervisory experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Have demonstrated ability to supervise staff.
- Expertise working with transitional aged youth and sexual/relationship violence.
- Expertise in clinical skills in evaluation, crisis intervention, and case management.
- Proven ability to interact with diverse constituencies.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated skills in consultative work with professional colleagues and other staff; experience in collaborative work across systems of care and with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Expertise in program development, design, and implementation.
- Excellent organizational skills including an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities, to define pitfalls, to propose and implement effective solutions, while being able to balance competing priorities.
In addition, preferred skills and experiences include:
- High level of energy, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.
- Student development knowledge and experience in college/university settings.
- Bi- or multi-lingual therapy skills.
- Work or lived experience relevant to serving one or more of the following communities:
- Black/African-American students
- First-generation/low-income students
- Indigenous/Native American students
- International students
- LGBTQ students
- Muslim students
- Students with disabilities
- Undocumented students
- Able to work evenings and weekends, on occasion.
Working Conditions:
- Successful candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
The expected pay range for this position is $123,000 to $166,000 annually. The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 80% FTE.
