Your Opportunity
Stantec is looking for a Wetlands Scientist to support a high-volume environmental services program for a large utility client. The successful candidate will support delivery of consulting services and client deliverables; develop improvements to workflow; and coordinate with the team, task leads, program manager, and clients for multiple tasks and subprograms.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct desktop reviews and field surveys of utility pole replacement projects for jurisdictional waters (State and Federal).
- Prepare jurisdictional delineation reports and regulatory permit applications, including Clean Water Act (CWA) 404, Clean Water Act 401, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Section 1602 Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement).
- Conduct monitoring of construction activities to ensure avoidance of jurisdictional features and compliance with regulatory permits.
- Provide office-based support for construction monitors in the field.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong attention to detail, quantitative analysis, and technical report writing skills.
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ability to learn and use various Stantec and client systems.
- Solid time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks/projects with demanding deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Contribute to multiple concurrent work efforts.
- Ability to process and evaluate large volumes of information.
- Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- Willingness to travel and work in multiple field conditions within California.
- Physically fitness and ability to navigate rugged conditions on foot (day and night work may be necessary).
- Ability to obtain clearance through client background check to access online system (upon employment).
- Comply with all Stantec and client policies including those related to safety, anti-harassment, and drug use.
- Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, biology, or related science with a minimum one years of conducting wetland delineation surveys.
- Knowledge of USACE CWA 404, State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) CWA 401, and CDFW 1602 permit process.
- 1 years’ experience conducting aquatic resource delineations and preparing associated reporting and regulatory permitting for the USACE, RWQCB, and CDFW.
- Experience conducting construction monitoring of biological and/or waters resources.
Office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to navigate rugged conditions on foot (day and night work may be necessary).
