Full- Time Floater

Job Summary: The Floater is cross trained to work in all front-line duties of the warehouse and safely operates a variety of equipment.

Reports To: Warehouse Manager

Essential Functions:

• Maintains a safe working environment by complying with Star Furniture safety standards and policies
• Prepares cardboard scrap by operating compactor equipment and palletizing compacted materials
• Uncrate merchandise using box cutter and safety glove on the other hand
• Affix bar code on assembled merchandise and move it to the front of the set-up area
• Assemble and clean the furniture
• Transports palletized materials by operating forklifts when needed
• Supports and participates in continuous improvement initiatives
• Provides support as required to the operation by performing other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
• Clean work area daily

Requirements:

• Reading skills and communication in English is required
• Wear always required steel-toed boots and back support
• Wear safety gloves when opening merchandise
• Use basic lifting techniques for heavy objects
• Ability to operate drill, basic tools, and broom
• Ask for help when moving heavy merchandise
• Wear required uniform pants and shirt

Supervisory Responsibility: None.

Work Environment: This position operates in a warehouse environment and must be capable of handling hot and cold climatic changes. This role is routinely exposed to dust, chemicals, and fumes in an open-air environment. All associates must wear appropriate PPE. The position regularly uses standard warehouse equipment and occasionally uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

• Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions when transporting materials.
• Regularly lifting and/or pushing 100 pounds maximum with occasional lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

This position requires at least 40 hours per week as a part of standard business schedule.
