Job Description Summary

Job Title: Director Supervisor: Director of Compliance and Operations

Status: Exempt; Salary

Position Summary:

The Director of Start Bight Academy primary job is to provide leadership to their staff and maintain a clean facility. As a director, you supervise and lead staff, design program plans, oversee daily activities, and prepare budgets. The director is responsible for all aspects of their center’s program, which may include before- and after-school care. The Director will work closely with center’s teachers and staff, creating learning plans or programs to meet state and federal requirements and parent expectations. Director will train childcare workers and make sure that the facility and its employees comply with childcare laws and Virginia Department of Education. As the director, it’s your job to organize parent contact information, dietary restrictions, and/or medical conditions for each child in the center. Director must also make sure the facility is well-stocked, that includes checking safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards and ensuring that facility is always clean and orderly. Director also oversees the implementation of safety ensures to promote a safe environment for the children.

The position is responsible for continually enhancing all curriculum to ensure it is current and provides an enjoyable experience for all children. This position is responsible for all compliance and state licensing regulations of the Child Care Services division.

Start Bright Academy Director possesses the following skills and qualifications:

Business Management: The Director runs all aspects of the center from creating the budget and Bright From the Start Auditing procedures

First Aid: Good knowledge of child safety requirements and be up to date on first aid protocol. Required CPR and first aid certification within first week of employment

Excellent Communication Skills: As the face of Start Bright Academy, the director must be an excellent communicator, being able to confidently take prospective parents on a tour, create newsletters and run staff meetings.

Good Crisis Management: Director must possess strong crisis management abilities being able to remain cool and composed in a crisis

Leadership Skills: Director’s job is to keep staff motivated and resolve conflicts without causing confusion in the workplace

Classroom Experience: Since the Director is responsible for hiring teaching staff, they need to know how to handle a group of children, understand childhood development and have to know-how to establish classroom structure. Director will complete on-going leadership and classroom management trainings throughout the time in position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative:

  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed
  • Enhance policies and procedures that result in improved processes for all involved
  • Coach education coordinators in required HR paperwork and schedules
  • With oversight from the accounting department, create and adhere to an annual budget
  • Staff rooms in accordance with DHS ratio requirements while keeping staff hours in line with the budget
  • Lead an effort to increase enrollment
  • Keep Management Team and site directors apprised of enrollment and its connection to the budget
  • Participate in quarterly meetings
  • Work to ensure center maintains acceptable safety standards
  • Oversee the cleanliness of each site and that all hygiene practices are followed.

Curriculum:

  • Continuously research and implement cutting edge learning programs while maintaining financial prudency
  • Work with education coordinators to enhance current curriculum and to ensure the creative presentation of materials
  • Customer Satisfaction:
  • Coach site teachers and education coordinators to regularly communicate with parents
  • Conduct, analyze and communicate results of annual parent satisfaction surveys
  • Conduct exit interviews with parents leaving the site to learn why and incorporate appropriate suggestions from these
  • interviews

Marketing:

  • Create and implement effective marketing strategies in cooperation with the Marketing Department
  • Coach staff to always speak favorably of Start Bright Academy and peers

Regulatory:

  • Maintain current on all Department of Human Services and Bright From The Start requirements and ensure they are fulfilled at each site
  • Serve as the point of contact for all DHS/VDOE concerns and investigations
  • Ensure all childcare sites receive a level 4 score or higher on the Quality Rating System
  • Meet all food program requirements at center
  • Responsible for all of our Food program administration and correspondence

Talent Management:

  • Create and implement strategies to retain lead and assistant teachers
  • Coach teachers in best practices in all aspects of leading their classroom
  • Build a mentoring program for all levels of childcare services
  • Enhance staff appreciation practices
  • Ensure all staff receive required trainings as well as offering trainings on special interest topics.

Other:

  • A member of the Child Care Leadership Team
  • Complies with all SBA policies and SBA letter of employment
  • Maintains client and program confidentiality as defined in the SBA Confidentiality Policy
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional manner, both in appearance and actions in carrying out job responsibilities
  • Follows SBA Crisis Communication Plan
  • Attends and participates in SBA departmental, interdepartmental and staff meetings as directed
  • Maintains scheduled work hours and notifies immediate supervisor personally of absences
  • Support SBA Events
  • Promotes SBA team concept by being courteous and helpful to other employees and clients
  • Accurately maintains necessary forms and records to submit in a timely manner, especially Incident Report Forms
  • Be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the total work environment
  • Complete timecards and/or employment records accurately and submit on time to supervisor
  • This position may require regular evening and weekend works hours; individual must be able to work flexible hours
  • Works with supervisor to develop a professional growth plan
  • Attends in-services trainings and work to increase skills in field
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • All center staff, teachers, and children

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or early childhood
  • Minimum of 5 years of childcare experience
  • CPR and first aid certification
  • Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter training within first six months of employment. Must be repeated every five years thereafter.
  • Have the ability to supervise staff of varying educational and experiential backgrounds
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of children and awareness of what constitutes a sound education program for young children
  • One hour in universal precautions and infectious disease control training within first six months of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Pre-employment physical examination, including testing for communicable diseases and TB Skin test, taken within six months prior to beginning employment by a licensed physician and repeated at least every three years thereafter.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
