Responsibilities
Staff Planning & Analysis Analyst role
Analysts on the P&C Analytics Personal Lines Financial Trends team provide insight to Underwriting Executives and department leadership to enable better informed decisions. This requires analysis of a broad spectrum of measures around Underwriting performance metrics and results.
This is a fast-paced role with the need to develop and adapt insights to address both internal and external environmental changes. Successful analysts must collaborate with other analysts and business partners across the enterprise to meet their objective.
In addition to the Communication and Business Analysis skillsets outlined below, significant technical skills in BI Tooling (Power BI, Qlik), SAS, SQL, and Microsoft products are currently needed to transform available data into concise verbal, written and visual presentations. This work includes developing the data requirements needed for the analysis, identifying where that data resides, validating the data and analysis, and presenting to Executives and department leadership. Skills within AWS will be needed in the near future.
P&C Analytics in Financial Operations is seeking to hire a business data analyst to support Personal Lines Financial Trends analytics. A business data analyst combines in-depth business knowledge with a high capacity for analyzing data. They visualize and interpret data and support decision-making by providing insights and actionable analysis to executives and department leadership.

- Effectively analyzing data, creating appropriate visualizations, and communicating results of analyses to various levels of management with cohesive, understandable, and appropriate message points, summaries, reports, and presentations.
- Proactively sharing insights with business partners to enable timely and informed decision making.
- Collaborating with key business partners to understand and communicate trends.
- Serving as a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to Executive leadership, collaborating broadly with others across State Farm to enable execution of key enterprise priorities and contributing to strategic, high-impact work.
Qualifications
Required skills:
- Preferred- minimum of 2 years of related professional experience and bachelor's degree in relevant field.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork, communication, and resourcefulness competencies.
- Understanding of the P&C Underwriting environment, and effective application of that knowledge in the work through collaboration with peers, leadership, and business partners.
- Comprehensive decision-making and judgment exercised when diagnosing and resolving complex problems and issues.
- Proven record of successfully leading projects and others.
- Demonstrated learning agility to quickly learn and immediately apply both new technical skills and business acumen.
- Ability to effectively utilize business intelligence data systems, models, financial/statistical resources and analytical software applications in the creation of reports, charts, and visuals.
- Proficient in SAS and SQL with an understanding of relational databases.
- Proficient in BI Tooling (i.e. Power BI, Qlik, QuickSight).
- Advanced skills within the Microsoft suite, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Fluency in AWS cloud-based tools and services and statistical analysis skills are preferred.
