The Fairbanks International Airport (FAI), a Division of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), is seeking an Airport Operations Specialist to join our team and help Keep Alaska Moving!


What You Will Be Doing:

This position serves as the Supervisor of Airport Operations Officers and acts as Airport Operations Superintendent in their absence. Duties include managing department work schedules, leave bids, and coordinating required training. Assists the Airport Operations Superintendent in the oversight and execution of federally mandated documents. Monitors operations in the airport terminal, adjacent aircraft parking, and landside areas. This position will make decisions to create, update and implement terminal inspections and help deconflict gate usage and landside activities and ensure compliance with all Federal Regulations as applicable for FAA, TSA, USDOT and CBP.

The Airport Operations office is located in the Aircraft Response Center, which is a satellite building to the terminal of the Fairbanks International Airport. Minimum Qualifications

Two years experience resolving aircraft operating area (AOA) issues and experience involving commercial or general aviation operations, terminal operations, landside operations, or overseeing snow removal and airport and runway safety operations, subject to FAA, state, or military rules and regulations. The required experience includes work such as an Airport Operations Officer with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

(NOTE: Qualifying military experience must reflect ground, airside and landside operations control experience to be considered qualifying or equivalent.)

Special Note:
If an incumbent is required to use a firearm to assist in controlling wildlife hazards at the airport, he or she must be able to comply with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208). Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is ineligible for appointment to a position that requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition.

Candidates for this class must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542), which requires fingerprinting and a background check.

Employees are required to possess a current Alaska driver's license.
Employees may be required to maintain first aid certification.

AIRPORT SECURITY BADGE
Candidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check. The successful applicant must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as well as a comprehensive background investigation, along with a Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment.

FIREARM CERTIFICATION

If an incumbent is required to use a firearm to assist in controlling wildlife hazards at the airport, he or she must be able to comply with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208). Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is ineligible for appointment to a position that requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition.
