Wildwood Correctional Complex (WCC) is looking for applicants who are inspired to instill positive change in others and their community while consistently maintaining public safety. Wildwood Correctional Complex Criminal Justice Technicians (CJT) perform duties such as filing of court paperwork, booking records, entering sentencing and case information into ACOMS (Alaska Corrections Offender Management System), and arranging offender travel for furlough and release. As a member of a cohesive team, CJT’s will provide direct support the probation team as they supervise the offenders who are under the jurisdiction of the Superior court or District Courts of Alaska and have been remanded to the custody and care of the Department of Corrections.

WCC is a 470 bed Minimum/Medium custody institution composed of three separate facilities. On facility grounds our Pre-trial facility houses all custody levels remanded here on the Kenai Peninsula. WCC also includes a minimum custody only facility that includes the Transitional Work Opportunity, Electronic Monitoring Program, SPOT (Special Pet Obedience Training) and Public Service Projects program that benefits our local communities. Wildwood Correctional Complex is located in Kenai, just north of Soldotna and the world-famous Kenai River. This CJT position will work in one of the three buildings located on the grounds of the Wildwood Correctional Complex under the direct supervision of the Probation Officer III.

Criminal Justice Technician 1
Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
AND
One year of advanced clerical experience.
OR
One year of law enforcement or criminal justice experience equivalent to Correctional Officer 1, Adult Probation Officer 1, Court Services Officer, Juvenile Probation Officer 1, Juvenile Justice Officer 1, or State Trooper Recruit with the State of Alaska.
SUBSTITUTION:
Post-secondary education will substitute for the experience on a month-for-month basis (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
Special Note:
High school graduation "equivalent" includes a G.E.D., or completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question, or highest grade of school completed plus amount of work experience which totals 12 years.
Criminal Justice Technician 2
One year of paraprofessional experience in criminal justice, juvenile justice, probation, parole, public safety, law enforcement, corrections, court, legal services, law office, social services or public assistance programs or functions.
OR
One year of law enforcement or criminal justice experience equivalent to Correctional Officer 1, Adult Probation Officer 1, Court Services Officer, Juvenile Probation Officer 1, Juvenile Justice Officer 1 or State Trooper Recruit with the State of Alaska.
SUBSTITUTION:
Post-secondary education in criminal justice or social sciences will substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
- 3 most recent performance evaluations ( 3 letters of Reference/Recommendation may substituted for an evaluation if no evaluations are available). Must be attached to Work Place Alaska application.
- A list of three professional references with current contact information. Must be submitted with Work Place Alaska application.
- Transcripts, if you are using them to meet minimum qualification.
PREA NOTIFICATION
The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:
- Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The salary range is identified at the top of this notice and depends on the experience of the selected candidate(s). Starting salary will be determined by the level at which the position is hired. If filled at level 1, promotion to the level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
