ATTENTION ALL APPLICANTS!

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Statewide Division of Design & Engineering Services is recruiting for an Engineering Assistant to join our team in the Bridge Section in Juneau to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Effective July 1, 2020 the wage for this position increased by 1%. The wage listed in this job posting reflects the increase.

The Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, Bridge Section provides design services for new and rehabilitation bridge construction projects, as well as a broad range of services associated with the existing inventory of the State's 1,000 public highway bridges. We work hard to support our Department’s mission to Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.

Located in Juneau, Alaska, this position offers a combination of office and field work opportunities. You may be given the chance to travel statewide for several weeks in the summer, as well as for emergency inspections year-round to support the Department’s bridge inspection program.

Our team offers hands-on engineering experience, professional development, mentorship, and collaboration among highly skilled professionals.  We provide everyone with a standard 37.5-hour work week and flexible work schedules in order to ensure a positive work and personal life balance. We offer a generous leave package that increases with service time. In addition, we offer paid state holidays—a total of 11 throughout the year—and paid overtime when project needs exceed the standard 37.5-hour work week.

In this position, you will perform structural engineering analysis and calculations for the development of bridge plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and load ratings of bridges and other transportation structures. As a flex position, we are committed to your education, training, and development in the bridge design subfield of engineering. For this reason, we have built a progressive promotional path into this position, where we will ensure your further growth and development as an engineer, which will help prepare you for licensure.
