Pay for Anchorage is: $3,152.80 Biweekly.
Pay for Juneau is: $3,310.40 Biweekly.

What you will be doing:
This position functions as the manager of the Senior and Disabilities Services (SDS) Grants Unit. The incumbent is responsible for statewide oversight and management of grant programs that provide vital community based supportive services to families and individuals across the state. Services support families and individuals ages 55 and over, through Older American Act, Mental Health Trust Authority, general funds, interagency agreements, and other federal funding. This position is responsible for program management and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations that apply to grants administered by the division. The position is also responsible for building and maintaining effective working relationships with grantees and federal and state agencies. The working environment you can expect:
This position is being recruited for in Anchorage or Juneau. The Anchorage office is located in Northeast Anchorage (1835 Bragaw Street). It is near Costco, East High School, and various restaurants and a coffee shop. There are walking trails close to the office and parking is readily available. The Juneau office is located in the downtown area close to shops and restaurants.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the competencies in:


  • Program Planning:
    Ensures state/Tribal/community health improvement planning uses community health assessments and other information related to the health of a community (e.g., current data and trends; proposed federal, state, and local legislation; commitments from organizations to act)). Develops program goals and objectives.
  • Community Dimensions of Practice: Distinguishes the roles and responsibilities of governmental and non-governmental organizations in providing programs and services to improve the health of a community.
  • Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
  • Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Human Capital Management: Builds and manages workforce based on organizational goals, budget considerations, and staffing needs. Ensures that employees are appropriately recruited, selected, appraised, and rewarded; takes action to address performance problems. Manages a multi-sector workforce and a variety of work situations.
  • Leadership: Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations.
  • Conflict Management: Encourages creative tension and differences of opinions. Anticipates and takes steps to prevent counter-productive confrontations. Manages and resolves conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in biological, health or behavioral science; health practice; education; public, healthcare, or business administration; or a closely related field;
AND/OR
Progressively responsible professional supervisory or lead level experience performing health program planning, development, coordination, evaluation, or implementation; providing technical health care assistance and consultation; conducting health care utilization or quality assurance examinations; and/or delivering health care service.

Special Note: Agencies employing Health Program Managers are responsible for administering a wide range of medical, behavioral, and social health insurance programs for children and adults. Positions typically focus on a particular health area. Where licensure is required, the job vacancy announcement will identify the type of license necessary to apply for that specific position. The essential functions of some positions may involve exposure to infectious disease and/or biohazards. Travel may be required via automobile. Possible use state vehicle 2-5 times monthly. Valid State of Alaska driver´s license is desired.

Special Notice
  • This position requires frequent travel normally one trip of up to (5 days length quarterly) to various areas of Alaska via automobile or aircraft.
  • A valid Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
