WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
This position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of ongoing planning, modification, use, evaluation and maintenance of the Alaska Records Management System (ARMS) and the Traffic and Citation Software (TraCS).
This position would also be responsible for establishing ongoing training, gathering and documenting the department’s business rules and coordinating their review, modification, and integration with the systems. Create and maintain end user documentation for proprietary software applications.
 
 The Information System Coordinator will serve as the liaison between operational users and information technology specialists to ensure the systems are meeting the functional needs of the department. As a member of the application support team, the incumbent will collaborate with team members for the overall attainment of the department’s mission, vision, and goals through creating and implementing strategies.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

This position is located in East Anchorage in the Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Headquarters building located at 5700 East Tudor Road. Individual office space for this position is co-located with one other Criminal Justice Specialist to encourage team building and collaborative efforts. The Chugach Mountains provide the backdrop for the building and ample parking is available; public transportation drop points are located directly in front of the building and paved trails are located right next to the building.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities in

  • Operations Support - Knowledge of procedures to ensure production or delivery of products and services, including tools and mechanisms for distributing new or enhanced software.
  • Technology Awareness - Knowledge of developments and new applications of information technology (hardware, software, telecommunications), emerging technologies and their applications to business processes, and applications and implementation of information systems to meet organizational requirements.
  • Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Training from an accredited college with a major in business management, public administration, operations management, information systems, computer information and office systems, computer science, informatics, or similar and/or professional experience related to the occupational area of the program associated with the position.

Special Note: 

“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.  

"Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.  

“Training” and “education” are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.  

“Professional experience” means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment.

Additional Required Information

AT TIME OF INTERVIEW

At time

  • A list of three (3) professional references including daytime telephone number and email address.
  • At least two (2) of these must be from a current or former supervisor.  Professional is defined as a supervisor or an individual who has direct knowledge of your work performance.

APSIN
Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
 
BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check.  Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
