The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a
Mental Health Clinician 3.
 
What you will be doing:
As a Mental Health Clinician 3, you will provide skilled and intensive psychotherapeutic casework services and general mental health services to patients in an 80-bed inpatient setting. You will have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings with the licensed practitioner, registered nurse, and other clinical staff for the discussion of diagnoses and treatment of patients. This position completes psychosocial assessments, coordinates treatment plans, and conducts discharge planning. The Mental Health Clinician 3 is responsible for communicating with family members, support systems, guardians, and/or community providers on treatment progress and recommendations.

This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks, and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree OR Master’s degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.

AND

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in:

  • Accountability: Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions and demonstrates commitment to accomplish work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Developing Others: Develops the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and by providing opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.
  • Managing Human Resources: Plans, distributes, coordinates, and monitors work assignments of others; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Psychology: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Therapy and Counseling: Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental ailments, and career guidance. 

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Progressively responsible professional experience performing psychotherapeutic casework.

“Progressively responsible” means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.

“Professional experience” means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment. 

"Training" and "education" in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

"Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

Special Note:

Some positions require the incumbent be licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor. This requirement will be addressed in the job posting.

Additional Required Information

  • Conferred transcripts or diploma for bachelor’s degree/master's degree and/or doctoral degree if using education to meet the MQ's. At time of interview applicant must submit:
  • List of three (3) professional references, including daytime phone numbers.
  • Copies of your three (3) most recent performance evaluations, or two (3) letters of professional reference, if available.
  • Copies of any active professional licenses or certificates. 
If selected for the position and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to: 
  1. Provide a valid Alaska drivers license is required.
  2. Submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
  3. Provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations.
  4. Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement)
  5. Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.  
  6. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months.
Special Note:
This position requires Mandt certification. New employees are required to take a 2-day Mandt certification class. Mandt classes are offered as part of API's new hire orientation; this position requires all employees to be fingerprinted for a background check which requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network - APSIN and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
