What You Will Be Doing
As a member of the Division of Oil and Gas permitting team, you will play a critical role in overseeing one of Alaska's most important industries. This position is responsible for supporting and documenting actions relating to oil and gas exploration and development and similar uses of state land. The successful candidate will support the North Slope and statewide permitting staff and work with various elements of document management, public outreach and engagement, and routine permitting transactions.

Mission and Culture
The Division of Oil and Gas manages lands for oil, gas, and geothermal exploration and development in a fair and transparent manner to maximize the prudent use of resources for the greatest benefit of all Alaskans. It also facilitates safe and environmentally conscious operation and maintenance of common carrier pipelines. This position plays a critical role in the Division by leading or participating in the authorization process for large, complex, or economically important oil and gas or geothermal projects statewide.

The Working Environment You Can Expect
The DOG permitting section is in downtown Anchorage on the 11th floor of the Atwood Building. The daily work environment is dynamic and deadline-driven, with a balance of independent project work and collaborative teamwork.

The successful candidate will have:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with other governmental and non-governmental agencies, industry, and the public.
• Experience in understanding and summarizing complex information and presenting it so that it is understandable to a general audience.
• Experience with standard office systems and software and database management.
• Experience in identifying and analyzing problems and recommending appropriate actions.
• The ability to maintain records and prepare reports with statistical information.
• Organizational and communication skills necessary to perform a broad range of tasks associated with the adjudication, administration, and oversight of land use authorizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of experience at the entry level performing technical functions of natural resource management equivalent to a Natural Resource Technician 1, Forest Technician 3 or Environmental Technician 1 with the State of Alaska.

OR
Six months of clerical work experience equivalent to an Administrative Clerk 3 or Recorder 1 with the State of Alaska.

OR
16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution.

OR
Any combination of the above where 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours is equivalent to one month of experience.

• A copy of academic transcripts if education is used to meet the minimum qualifications for the job class.
• Copies of your last two performance appraisals, if available. If unavailable, two supervisory letters of recommendation may be substituted.
