The Governor’s Office Communications Department is looking for a highly motivated communications professional with excellent writing, leadership, and organizational skills to fill the role of Deputy Director.
The Deputy Director of Communications will play a critical role in the office’s operations, working closely with the Communications Director, Governor’s Office Staff, and state agencies to develop and execute the Governor’s communications strategy across state government.
The Deputy Director of Communications will report to the Communications Director and be responsible for:
• Coordinating long-term communications planning in close collaboration with 34 state agencies, ensuring agency communications align with the Governor’s vision for the State of Arizona
• Working directly with Communications Director and senior staff to develop and implement communications strategy for the State
• Identifying proactive earned media opportunities for agencies and the Governor to communicate with the general public
• Drafting and editing speeches, talking points, press releases, and other communications materials as necessary
• Assisting the Communications Director in managing the Governor’s Office communications team
• Leading and providing resources for agency communications teams
• Planning, organizing and coordinating earned media events
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once in a high-stakes and fast-paced environment
• Excellent writing skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to turn around work product on tight deadlines
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, media and diverse members of the general public
• Excellent discretion and judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Experience working for high profile officials in the public or private sector is a major plus
• Bachelor’s degree; at least four years of experience in public relations, communications, or a related field
• Strong commitment to the mission and priorities of the Administration
