This position is on the AHCCCS Actuarial Team. The successful candidate will assist the team with capitation rate development including directed payments, help monitor the medical encounter experience submitted by the Contractors providing Medicaid services to members under managed care contracts, help with Requests For Proposals (RFPs) and clearly and accurately document all processes for review by a supervisor. The candidate will be responsible for learning, understanding, and applying knowledge related to regulations and guidance propagated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as well as the CMS Office of the Actuary (OACT) as part of the capitation rate development and review process, in addition to following actuarial standards of practice as propagated by the Actuarial Standards Board (ASB).

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The position will also be responsible for ad hoc analyses as assigned by their supervisor, as well as reviewing revisions to policies/laws/regulations for impacts to AHCCCS programs, and implementing process improvements as appropriate based on the functional team they are part of in the months when capitation rate development is not the first priority.
  • The position will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clinical, financial, operational, rates and reimbursement, directed payments, budget, policy and contract areas.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, finance, economics, or statistics. Bachelor's degree in other majors in combination with two years experience with financial analysis and/or capitation rate setting.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Medicaid managed health care preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.
  • Successfully pass fingerprint background check, prior employment verifications and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
  • Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
