The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Civil Litigation Division/Division of Civil Rights Section is seeking a Mediator to coordinate and conduct mediations for the Division, state agencies, courts and schools.
Remote Options: This position may be eligible for Remote Work two days a week.
This position will be responsible for conducting and coordinating mediations for the Division, state agencies, courts, and schools. Conduct mediation training sessions for volunteers, court administrative staff, and governmental agencies. Process hiring, retention and supervision of volunteer mediators. Prepare, compile, collate and input data for mediation referrals, including weekly and monthly reports regarding pending mediation cases and mediation agreements. Modify and implement mediation and training policies, procedures and accompanying documentation; provide feedback and recommendations regarding the mediation and training programs' effectiveness. Do preparatory and follow up work with respect to intergovernmental service agreements (ISAs). Engage in the organization and implementation of other projects or activities as assigned, including education, outreach and development of grant proposals.
• Knowledge and understanding of mediation techniques and resources, and the ability to provide volunteer mediators with technical guidance in the techniques of mediation.
• Knowledge of other mediation programs and some knowledge about the investigation and litigation processes.
• Knowledge of program planning, organization, and design.
• Knowledge of the professional conduct requirements and constraints related to state agency, court and school mediation and training.
• Knowledge of the planning, designing and drafting of grant proposals.
• Knowledge of the Division's policies, practices, and procedures as they relate to the handling of mediations, training, volunteer usage, and the drafting and approval of mediation agreements.
• Knowledge and experience for this position can also be acquired through on the job training and attendance at various workshops on conflict management, prevention and intervention, mediation and alternative dispute resolution, or a combination of any of the above.
• Skill in oral and written communication, particularly as they pertain to mediator training and participation in mediation sessions.
• Knowledge, skill, and ability to design questionnaires, forms, and materials for general distribution to the public.
• Experience with, and knowledge of, computers and case management software.
• Ability to plan, organize, and implement a wide variety of activities.
• Ability to prioritize work assignments.
• Ability to generate reports, spreadsheets, and word documents in connection with mediation and training duties.
• Ability to create and provide presentations, seminars and training sessions.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required.
• Travel may be required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
• The equivalent of 40 hours of basic to advanced mediation training from an educational institution, government entity, or alternative dispute resolution organization.
