WORKING TITLE: Applied Researcher/Grant Writer
The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary
The DOC Applied Researcher is responsible for identifying, preparing, and submitting proposals for grants and funding opportunities for the department and its divisions. The position is also responsible for managing awarded grants, assisting department quality improvement and program evaluation researchers with evaluating interventions, data collection efforts, applied research, and drafting reports. The position is governed by state and federal laws and department policy.
Functions
Identify grants and funding opportunities that enhance evidence-based programming, case management, retention efforts, community and institutional practices and programs, technology and equipment, and training and data quality initiatives. Prepare, submit, and manage grant and funding applications. Coordinate with department leaders and staff to better understand their needs and long- and short-term goals. Identify grants that address their needs and support and promote the goals. Matches funding opportunities that will advance those goals. Coordinates with department staff to compile the information needed to submit the proposal. Outlines how granted funds are used and relevant timelines. Monitors progress and compliance with the grant's specifications. Procures ongoing funding when available. Assists department researchers with data collection efforts and report writing.

Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of community correction and supervision practices, treatment and reintegration services, and programs.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of institutional corrections and correctional practices, treatment and reintegration services, and programs.
Knowledge of offender management databases and Microsoft Office.
Ability to interview staff and justice-involved individuals.
Ability to research, analyze, and interpret scientific literature.
Ability to implement grant and funding requirements.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in business administration, criminal justice, political science, computer science, psychology, sociology, criminology, statistics, or a related field. Writing, research, or community or institutional corrections experience may substitute for graduate-level education.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
