Description of Job



Position Summary:
The Educator Development Specialist is housed in the Educator Talent Division and is the primary resource for districts, BOCES, and Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) regarding required professional development for teachers across the state. The Educator Development Specialist works under the direction of the Educator Preparation Manager and the Executive Director of the Educator Workforce Development Unit. This position manages the development of standards for induction and required professional development as required by state statute or State Board of Education rule including the application, review and approval process. This position works directly with educational leaders and advocates to ensure consistent and rigorous processes for high-quality induction and other required professional development for teachers across Colorado.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops statewide cohorts of induction and professional development leaders to ensure high quality, timely, and accurate customer
service
Provide excellent external customer service by serving as the primary point-of-contact in support of the implementation of state required
professional development, such as but not limited to English Learning professional development and induction.
Serve as general resource broker and conduit to the Unit's resources and initiatives related to educator retention and recruitment for
district stakeholders engaged in mentoring and support of preservice and new to the profession educators.
Develop and coordinate workshops and trainings for stakeholders, facilitate professional learning communities for preservice, new to the
profession educators, mentors, school principals, district program leaders, and educator preparation programs to support a network and
share best practices.
Conduct approval and renewal of professional development options, including facilitating reviews, supporting program submission
refinements, and scheduling and facilitating engagement of appropriate state team members, drafting feedback and recommendations for
professional learning providers such as districts, BOCES and educator preparation programs.
Engage with district/BOCES leaders to monitor the implementation process and improvements of required induction programs
Fosters relationships and makes connections for districts, BOCES with educator preparation programs.
Continually monitors the professional development environment in and out of Colorado for continuous growth opportunities, initiates
conversations about these opportunities and facilitates implementation of new initiatives as agreed upon by the division leadership.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: (NOT SKILLS-BASED)

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment

QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS:
Required:
  • Minimum of 3 years of teacher leader, principal/asst. principal, or district/BOCES leader and knowledge of K-12 educator mentoring,
induction, and/or professional development.
  • Experience leading building or district/BOCES educator development efforts.
  • Experience leading projects and engaging multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Experience with project management, especially support of large-scale, complex programs.
  • Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter with consistent follow through.
  • Demonstrated strength in detail-oriented organization, communication skills, and efficiency in meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Experience that demonstrates problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal
supervision.
  • Demonstrated strength and proficiency using MS Office Suite tools.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

Conditions of Employment (Required):

  • Valid Driver's License Required: Required to safely operate a motor vehicle to complete travel requirements.
