About the Work Unit
The Logistics Services Section (LSS) manages the department’s facilities, fleet, and public safety materials through customer focused actions which empower the members of the Department of Public Safety (CDPS) to safeguard lives. There are four major branches that comprise the section: Materials Management Branch (Warehouse), Fleet Management Branch, Facilities Management Branch and the Wildland Fire Logistics Branch. Members of these four branches, plus the Logistics Services headquarters section, provide daily production and support for the equipment and infrastructure necessary to sustain operations for the divisions assigned to the Colorado Department of Public Safety.

The Materials Management Branch manages, operates and provides inventory and warehousing services, procurement and distribution of goods and materials for the Colorado Department of Public Safety. These critical services provide clothing, officer safety equipment, law enforcement equipment and other supplies to the customers. These services are provided in accordance with State Fiscal and Procurement rules and regulations, utilizing competitive bidding, inventory control, quality control and asset management.

About the Job
Works independently, without prior management approval, position functions as an individual contributor, monitors and regulates the day-to-day warehousing and inventory control processes and procedures to ensure that the mission of the Department of Public Safety and objectives of the Materials Management Branch is met. These objectives include, but are not limited to uniforms, accessories, officer safety and specialized equipment needs. This position regularly works with vendors, contractors, uniform members of CSP and members of other CDPS divisions on warehousing and supply chain issues. This position helps to ensure availability of CSP uniforms, accessories, officer safety and other specialized equipment. Evaluates quality and vendor performance, meets with manufacturing representatives to resolve problems or negotiating special conditions. Regularly works independently with vendors, contractors, other State agencies and all members and levels of the Colorado Department of Public Safety on warehousing, inventory and other supply needs. Further, this position works to resolve disputes with vendors regarding quality control, invoicing and on-time deliveries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees and coordinates the movement of materials and supplies.
  • Monitors the daily operational needs and functions of the Materials Management Branch warehouse and inventory.
  • Accurately processes orders for daily distribution and relay.
  • Required to keep extensive records of vendor quotes, relay log, CSP issuance of citations, stock returns and inventory adjustments.
  • Independently organizes, coordinates, and administers warehouse inventory and processes for CDPS, CSP field customers, Headquarters, Academy and Staff Support.
  • Makes recommendations for process and procedure improvement, inventory level adjustments and other warehousing issues.
  • Assist in the coordination and dissemination of information to advise internal customers and vendors to ensure policies and proper procedural requirements are met.
  • Researches and confers with vendors, suppliers and manufacturers to evaluate product performance, inventory, product lead time and quality control issues.
  • Identifies low levels of inventoried materials and makes recommendations for replenishment. Confirms that requested quantities of inventory replacement are realistic, pricing is current and fair and drafts and submits all inventory related purchase orders in CORE for approval by the Materials Management Branch Chief.

NOTE:  To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration.

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in a logistics/warehouse management work equal to three (3) years

or

Three years of education in a related field.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 - 60 pounds

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must be Colorado resident at the time of application
  • Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes reference checks, a polygraph exam, a fingerprint based criminal history search.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver License
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to scale mobile warehouse stairs to reach supplies stored in the warehouse and to reach for and control items at eye level or higher while standing.
  • Must be able to get and maintain forklift certification (at state cost) within 90 days of employment.
