Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP)

As a cornerstone of the Pueblo community for over a century, Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a leading employer, provider of quality mental health services, and a community partner.

CMHHIP is a 24 hour behavioral health acute care facility that is intended to provide a safe, secure, and therapeutic setting for patients with both psychiatric and medical issues.  The services provided include evaluation and treatment for patients who are severely mentally ill, and the goal of this facility is to return patients to their optimal level of functioning and assist them in returning to the community as appropriate.

The Psychologist II will provide mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to patients with psychological and emotional disorders. This position may offer individualized or group therapy, counseling, and other evidence-based interventions to help the patients cope with their conditions, improve their mental well-being, and support their recovery. This position will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans and ensure the overall well-being of patients admitted to CMHHIP.  This position may be assigned to a specific unit or location or may be assigned to care on a referral-based services model, or both.




Additionally as the Psychologist II you can expect to:

  

  • Performs relevant evaluation and individual/group treatment for the purpose of increasing emotional regulation, coping skills, and behavior regulation
  • Reviews the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) utilized on the unit to provide incentives for active treatment participation and to develop socially effective behavior
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive care for patients
  • Completes any written report required by the court to integrate findings and recommendations
  • Maintain statistical and research knowledge of specific treatment modalities utilized and or evaluation instruments
  • Attends routine Psychology Department meetings, and based upon position may attend various meetings or participate on committees to represent the Psychology department
  • Establish or utilize appropriate team meetings to provide clinical education/case consultation on difficult-to-treat patients
  • Assures for cross-training of staff so that the clinical functions provided by the psychologists are always covered
  • Monitoring of all assigned or delegated non-exempt and exempt employees' time worked and leave taken, ensuring paid leave requests are submitted and approved with the exception of administrative leaves, and non-approved absences are reported by the pay period deadline
  • Other duties as assigned


 


Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience: 
 

  • Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of
    Psychologist Examiners

AND 

  • Three (3) years of experience as licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist
    candidate, two of which must have been at the level of a fully operating psychologist


Substitutions:
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. If you are going to substitute education for the experience requirement, you must attach transcripts to your application. 

Special Qualifications: Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution and State licensure as a Clinical Psychologist

 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a clinical or psychiatric healthcare setting
  • Experience as a supervisor of staff for performance
  • Specialization in a specific area of clinical psychology (e.g., adolescent or gerontological psychology, trauma therapy, neuropsychology) 
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based therapeutic techniques
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • cultural competence and sensitivity in working with divers populations
  • Ability to work with both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and ethical practice

  • CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services),
    Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers) 
  • This position is subject to a credentialing process and is expected to submit the credentials application initially as part of the hiring process, and prior to the expiration of the appointment for consideration for ongoing credentialing.   Re-credentialing occurs initially after one year, then biennially thereafter
  • Must maintain professional license in good-standing with DORA
  • Maintain clinical performance within the scope of practice for licensed psychologists with demonstrated competency of practice
  • Must adhere to expectations and processes set forth in CMHHIP policy, regulations and by-laws.
  • Must obtain and maintain clinical privileges with the medical staff at CMHHIP
  • Shall not initiate or engage in sexual, social, personal or financial relationships with patients either during or any time after hospitalization, even if the patient requests or initiates such a relationship.  All relationships with current or former patients must be disclosed on your application
  • Successfully pass all modules of the CMHHIP New Employee Orientation core curriculum to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams
  • Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety
  • Has direct contact with patients, frequently 1:1 works in situations involving assaultive behavior,
  • Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language effectively and fluently communicates in English, both verbally and in writing
  • 2-step TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire
  • Annual mandatory influenza vaccination
