COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE (CPW)
Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources. Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Resource Stewardship Program is seeking to fill a seasonal biologist position. The primary duties include coordinating raptor monitoring and volunteer monitoring on state parks. This 40 hour per week position is split between field based biological surveys, training and managing volunteers, and the coordination of
biological projects from our north Denver location. GIS skills are preferred. This position provides a great entrance into the working worlds of conservation biology, public land management, citizen science, and GIS in the beautiful state of Colorado.
DUTIES:
Responsibilities primarily involve raptor biology and coordination of the raptor monitoring citizen science program, as well as biological research, field surveys, data management, and cartography. Work will include tablet computer mapping in Colorado’s state parks using ArcGIS products like FieldMaps/ArcCollector, as well as volunteer management, volunteer training, GIS analysis, threatened & endangered species management, production of biological training & education materials, and administrative duties.Applicant should have a background in ecology, wildlife, botany, natural resources, volunteer management, GIS or other natural resource sciences; as well as be proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency with ESRI GIS products is preferred. Experience with ArcGIS Online and ESRI Field Maps is helpful. Good organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work with autonomy are required.

Applicant should have a background in ecology, wildlife, botany, natural resources, volunteer management, GIS or other natural resource sciences; as well as be proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Good organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work with autonomy are required.

An ideal candidate will have:
1. Knowledge of wildlife (particularly raptors and birds) and vegetation known to inhabit Colorado and experience with wildlife and/or vegetation sampling techniques.
2. Experience working with, managing, and/or training volunteers.
3. Understanding of recreation, natural resource, and public land management principles and how natural sciences relate to land management.
4. Experience maintaining/populating databases.
5. Ability to create GIS maps to illustrate on-the-ground natural resource conditions.
6. Strong work ethic, organization, and ability to work in a fast-paced setting, both independently and on teams.
7. Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, develop reports, and present information both orally and in writing.
8. Experience with and/or willingness to perform some overnight fieldwork across Colorado in all seasons.
9. Must have (or obtain) a Colorado Driver's license.
