The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) – is currently recruiting for one (1) Association Education Consultant position for the Nutrition and School Meals (NSM) team.

CTECS operates 17 Technical High Schools, 2 Aero-Tech programs and 1 Learning Center. The schools are located across the entire state from Danielson to Stamford, CT.

This position will provide system administration and technical support allowing the NSM unit to ramp up production and provide much needed services for the school site POS systems and hardware needs for the federal and state compliance requirements. The position will also be a direct line to the setup, implementation, and support of the system and training needs for the district. This position will require the incumbent to perform maintenance/configurations to the current and new POS systems, and full integration into current Titan software systems and third-party Nutrition software. This position will also require maintenance of ancillary devices and peripherals for the School Nutrition POS. This position will report to the Director of Food Services at CTECS Central Office. The incumbent will be required to travel to school sites regularly (Incumbent may be required to provide documentation of Automobile Liability coverage of 50,000/100,000).

Services that will be impacted:
  • Parent Portal with Nutrition data for students with medical dietary needs.
  • Parent ability to pull student transaction history RTE
  • Automated sales from Linked POS Vending services to student accounts.
  • Telemetry process for notifications via message boards with pertinent student information with state and federal requirements under HHKFA.
  • Automation of the student eligibility imports from the Department of Social Services Website.
  • Medical Documentation communication from SNAP (School Nursing Application Platform) to the district PSIS (PowerSchool) platform with direct connects with Titan as the main feeder of data.
  • Staff training in the peripherals of the acquired software/hardware short and long-term with new onboarding of staff.

  • Monday – Friday; 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • However, flexibility is required to ensure 24/7 data application.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Departments of Aging and Disability Services, Education, and the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System assists in planning and executing programs of extensive difficulty and scope for the improvement of education in the State.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists a Bureau Chief or Education Consultant in supervising various educational programs and services offered by the State; assists in the development and administration of certain programs of major importance or may develop and administer other programs within the framework of bureau policy; provides professional leadership and guidance to school authorities, professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals; may assist in directing the routine functioning of the bureau; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned; teaching skill; ability to prepare reports; ability to deal effectively with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

An earned advanced degree and five (5) years of professional experience OR in lieu thereof an equivalent combination of experience and training approved by the Board of Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with hardware procurement
  • Experience with software maintenance
  • Experience configurating POS systems
  • Experience maintaining databases for production or nonproduction servers including running utility tools, backups, patches, and manual version upgrades for Nutrition software
  • Experience troubleshooting basic firewall and IP for Hardware
  • Experience with SQL coding
  • Experience maintaining supplemental peripheral devices
  • Experience providing technical and training support to Nutrition staff and devices such as Vending Services and data transfer to Software, Configurations and menu boards with Telemetry and message boards
  • Experience with LAN/WAN
  • Experience in Customer Service, or other customer-centric focus

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class in certain positions may be required to possess an appropriate certificate issued by State Board of Education.
