POSITION SUMMARY:

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is currently accepting applications for passionate and motivated applicants looking for a challenging opportunity and interested in becoming part of FDLE forensics. This position is perfect for an exceptionally organized individual with strong time management skills, ability to use desktop productivity software (MS Office), and can adapt to technologies used by the laboratory and business support divisions. This full-time position is located in the forensic laboratory of the Tampa Bay Regional Operations Center and will work closely with laboratory management. The incumbent will assist different areas of the crime laboratory; such as maintaining laboratory file rooms, preparing laboratory reports, and assisting with laboratory vehicle fleet management. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Maintaining the file rooms and ensuring files are in a neat, organized, and retrievable manner;
  • Preparing scientific/technical reports, general correspondence, memoranda and administrative forms;
  • Compiling and analyzing data to assist supervisors with special projects, administrative reports, personnel evaluations and other issues;
  • Completing Public Records Request in a timely manner;
  • Transmitting lab reports and forms to State Attorneys’ offices;
  • Maintaining laboratory state vehicles and completing vehicle logs; 
  • Collecting Purchasing Requisition Forms and record expenses for the laboratory; and
  • Assisting other sections as needed, to include support to the front desk.

 

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A high school diploma or its equivalent.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices;
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication;
  • Knowledge of the laboratory terminology;
  • Skill in the use of computer equipment and telephone systems;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

BASE SALARY:

  • $ 35,000.00

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. The elements of a background include: financial credit check, criminal history of applicant and applicant’s immediate family or roommates, personal references, employment and education verifications (which includes official transcript(s)), drug screen and fingerprinting.  This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision.

 

NOTES:

Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
