The Work You Will Do:

This incumbent will report directly to the Regional Program Administrator or Investigator Supervisor depending on which district office he/she is assigned to.  Incumbent will educate the public concerning business practices, sanitation, safety and health regulations as it pertains to the boards regulated by the department.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Inspects establishments regulated by the Division for compliance with statutes and rules relative to licensure, sanitation and other safety or regulatory requirements.  Maintains accurate records and files of inspections conducted.  Issues discipline in the form of a citation or a notice of non-compliance to an establishment or individual that has not complied with the board statutes/rules.  Provides consultation to licensees and keeps them informed as to new rules and board updates.
  • Collects evidence, conducts interviews and prepares investigative reports on serious violations found. Conducts preliminary investigations to assist in determination of legal sufficiency.  Testifies at court, administrative hearings and interacts with the department, legal, the State Attorneys Offices and other regulatory agencies.  Serves administrative complaints and subpoenas as deemed appropriate.
  • Participates in sweeps and stings where unlicensed activity is suspected.  Responds to reports of unlicensed activity. Incumbent will present at speaking engagements, before groups of consumers in regard to the department’s regulated professions, the complaint process, and preventing unlicensed activity.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and to speak in public forums.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of basic micro-computer applications to include that of Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Statutes and Rules.
  • Possess analytical skills necessary to identify violations of statutes and rules and identify elements of the alleged violations.
  • Ability to use available technology to perform duties including computer software, hardware and data systems.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely in different driving environments.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health, public health or a regulatory-related field; or
  • Associate’s degree (in any field) & 2 years or more years of environmental health, public health, inspection or regulatory-related experience; or
  • Four (4) or more years of environmental health, public health, inspection or regulatory-related experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education; and
  • A valid Driver License is required.

 

Preferred:

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of inspections within the health sanitation of Barber, Cosmetology and Veterinarian professions.
