The Work You Will Do:
This is an independent professional environmental position that reports directly to the Environmental Administrator of the Field Operations Section in the Office of Air Monitoring. This position operates and maintains ambient air monitoring sites and collects legally defensible data in the Lee Island Coast Territory area. It may also assist in the operation, setup and repair of air monitoring equipment in other areas of the state. This position is also expected to offer new ideas for doing business, evaluate issues and make recommendations to improve operational efficiency. Responsible for achieving goals identified in the Division’s Business Plan.

The Division of Air Resource Management is charged with regulation of Florida’s air resource, including air quality monitoring, permitting and ensuring compliance of emission sources. Through a variety of services for our customers – the public and industry – the division regulates the state of Florida’s air resource fairly, consistently, and efficiently, while implementing state, federal, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements and enabling the economic development of the state. The Division provides these services through its Director’s Office, Office of Business Planning, Office of Air Monitoring, Permit Review Section, and Compliance Assurance Section.

Where You Will Work:
This position is in Ft. Myers, Florida, and requires the ability to work, in and throughout the counties of Collier, Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, and Sarasota. With 16 state parks and nine aquatic preserves that encompass beautiful coastal beaches and diverse wetlands, the South District provides many opportunities for enjoying the local environment. The district is also home to the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserves, which includes one of the few remaining undisturbed mangrove estuaries in North America.

Pay:
Salary Range Annually $51,435 - $54,435 (Commensurate based on experience)
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Makes routine visits to the sites, as required, to include maintenance of the site and instrument logs and preventive maintenance schedules; performs sample filter checking/changing, calibrates the instruments as required, performs routine quality control checks on the instruments as required, and performs specified preventive maintenance operations, and perform minor repairs to air monitoring sites and equipment.
Polls the sites daily and reviews the daily report displaying hourly data, previous night’s automatic calibration report and power failure report to confirm satisfactory operation. Takes corrective action if any problems are detected in the daily polling. Reviews polled data to insure the sites were polled and data are stored correctly. Tracks questionable or lost data.
Prepare and review technical documents, participate in performance and systems audits, perform site reviews, conduct software/hardware enhancement analysis, and prepare monthly and quarterly data reports, as needed.
Maintains and checks the site heating/cooling system operation to include cleaning and replacing of filters, maintain grounds around the air monitoring shelter, keeps shelter interior clean, and maintains and cleans the sample manifolds.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting of micro-electronics, pneumatics, electro-mechanical and test equipment, environmental and scientific concepts, terminology and principles
Knowledge of operational engineering and scientific concepts
Skilled in installing, operating, calibrating, repairing and maintaining a variety of scientific measuring devices, mechanical and electronic test equipment, analytical and meteorological instrumentation and related air monitoring equipment
Skilled in performing basic math calculations
Skilled in computer operation
Skilled in database programs and records maintenance
Skilled in computer operations
Skilled in analyzing and interpreting technical data
Skilled in problem solving and preparing technical reports and documents
Ability to read and accurately interpret technical manuals and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to be organized and detail oriented
Ability to independently plan, organize, coordinate, and complete work assignments in a timely manner
Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures in a reasonable manner

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the physical or natural sciences or engineering and five years of related professional experience
Valid Class E Driver License
Required to travel on state business driving and working alone in remote locations
Able to handle bulky items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance
